*Shippers Supply is currently located in Hopkins, Minnesota. Later in the year (around October 2024), Shippers Supply will be moving to a brand new facility in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
The primary role of the Controller is to accurately and efficiently complete the company’s monthly and year-end financial statements, internal financial reporting, the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, ERP database and some payroll/accounting functions. Controller plays a lead role in providing the corporation with financial analyses to improve profitability. This position coordinates the implementation of the financial planning process with company leaders and safeguards Company assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems
Responsibilities:
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Maintains the accuracy of general ledger and financial statements.
- Manages the departmental coordination of monthly financial statements and related account reconciliations.
- Plays a lead role in communicating and interpreting monthly financial statements to management.
- Coordinates the scheduling and logistics of year-end review with the firm’s CPA along with having all account reconciliations and supporting schedules prepared and ready for review on a timely basis.
- Manages the implementation, timeliness, accuracy, and continuous improvement of the Company’s budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Assists the CEO in the cash and risk management strategies and functions of the company.
- Leads the accounting department in maintaining the integrity (internal control systems) of overall accounting system.
- Owns the finance and accounting department's productivity and has the responsibility of successfully implementing the projects as well as continuously improving upon how to bring value-added services to both our company's internal and external customers.
- Provides leadership in the general accounting, payroll and capital asset and control processes.
- Develops and builds financial models to analyze major projects and opportunities.
- Works effectively and closely with IT to ensure ERP data excellence for all aspects of accounting, finance and reporting needs of the business.
- Supports the company with financial analysis and reporting to improve operating results.
- Assists CEO in managing the banking and treasury functions as well as the banking relationship for the company. Ensures compliance with bank covenants and reporting requirements.
- Provides opportunities for continuous training to the accounting staff to develop both their universal and technical skills to meet the future needs of the company.
- Uses systems knowledge and IT productivity tools to automate accounting procedures or make more efficient in all areas.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations and best practices.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline. CPA desirable.
- 6+ years progressive experience in accounting or finance positions with prior experience on a management team.
- 3+ years experience managing people and providing coaching, training and leadership.
- Experience in a supply chain / distribution and manufacturing organization(s) of relevant size and complexity preferred
- Knowledge of general accounting, product cost analysis, and GAAP, with strong reporting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and work with other leaders in a collaborative manner.
- Excellent and up to date knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and best practices.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team with a roll up your sleeves philosophy and be a champion and a role model for the Company mission, culture, values.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Must be detail oriented with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Must have a high regard for confidentiality.
- Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office suite including advanced Excel skills. Acumatica experience a plus
- May travel occasionally to support customers, vendors and other departments
