Join Animal Humane Society as a strategic leader! In this role, you'll be at the forefront, directing both the strategy and execution of annual giving fundraising initiatives dedicated to our mission. The impact of your work will resonate throughout our organization and the community, as we work hard to create a world that is more humane and compassionate place for animals. As the leader of a tight-knit team of three, you'll motivate and inspire them to acquire, retain and upgrade annual giving unmanaged donors.


  • Full Time, ~40 hours/week
  • Remote capabilities: This is a hybrid role. The person in this position will have the opportunity to work remotely for part of their time. Access to reliable internet, ability to prioritize work independently, and foster relationships while working in a hybrid (remote and in-person) environment required. Must live in or have easy access to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and be available for frequent face-to-face interactions in Minneapolis/St. Paul and greater Minnesota regions. This role's main office is our Golden Valley, MN location.

Pay: $75,500-85,500 annually, depending upon experience

Job Purpose:  You’re a strategic, collaborative, transparent and communicative fundraiser and leader. You manage the annual giving team and assure they are implementing a program strategy targeting individuals making annual contributions to support the mission of AHS. You develop and execute a comprehensive annual giving and donor engagement program with responsibility for ensuring the ongoing growth of operating funds. You will report to the Director of Philanthropy.

What you will be doing:

Leadership — Lead the annual giving team. Own outcomes, work collaboratively with your direct reports and peers and hold yourself and your team, and other stakeholders accountable. Model the coaching approach to leadership and participate in organization-wide leadership work. Support a culture of improvement and employee development. Manage resources responsibly.

Communication — Foster an environment of open communication and approachability. Convey information in a clear, complete, and timely manner, consistent with brand standards and organizational messaging. Listen, pay attention, and be a responsible steward of information.

Strategy — Lead and execute annual giving plans with the goal of acquiring, retaining and upgrading annual giving unmanaged donors. Develop, direct, and oversee execution of integrated multi-channel fundraising and stewardship campaigns with an eye towards increasing the lifetime value of a donor. Identify and implement new channels of unrestricted revenue. Serve as fundraising strategy lead on events.

Collaboration — Partner with teams across Advancement to implement strategies that advance donors through the donor continuum. Work closely with other internal experts to develop solutions to our integrated work.

Support — Oversee the research, selection, and management of vendors for products and services required for annual giving and manage vendor relationships. Be a voice in the writing and editing of communications for multiple solicitation channels. Stay current with best practices and industry standards. Advocate for and facilitate great donor experiences. Be an ambassador and a champion for AHS.

Analysis — Prepare regular reports on progress related to fundraising; analyze reports and act/adapt accordingly. Monitor trends and needs. Leverage data and insights to inform future work.

What we are looking for:

Experience — 3+ years of annual giving and fundraising experience. Proven leadership experience. Proven track record implementing multi-channel direct response programs with growth in revenue.

Adaptability and Emotional Intelligence — Strong critical thinking skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence. Ability to solve problems and work positively, professionally, and with close attention to detail in a variety of situations. Ability to balance shifting priorities in a variety of situations.

Computer Skills — Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Communication — Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have the ability to work as a leader and partner collaboratively with external and internal customers and departments.

Physical & Emotional Capabilities — Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the humane use of euthanasia. Must have a high level of resiliency.

Schedule — Availability to work during operational hours with the expectation to work an occasional evening or weekend shift.
