JCC Greater Boston is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to join our respected team of aquatics professionals. Swim instructors do not need to be strong swimmers or experienced trainers! Our instructors enjoy working with children and must be able to follow and guiding them through a carefully crafted curriculum, helping to build confidence and skills. At JCC Greater Boston, we train our swim instructors in the Lenny Krazelberg methodology and provide lots of team support. The aquatics team is a lively and fun group to work with. We are seeking new team members who possess high standards, a strong customer service orientation, and great teamwork skills.

This is a part-time position +/-15 hours per week and pays a competitive hourly rate of $25-$30/hr. The pay rate offer will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, skills and experience, and internal equity. Primary Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Ensures the safety of every pool patron through education and attentiveness.
- Teaches swimmers (children and adults) using predesigned lessons. Sessions may be with individuals or groups. Lessons may require hands on work in the pool with young children.
- Builds swimmers’ confidence, skills, and love of swimming
- Tracks skill development (record keeping).
- Sets up and breaks down equipment.
- Enforces the rules and regulations of the pools consistently
- Maintains good working relationships with staff members, maintenance personnel, and administrative personnel.
- Resolves member concerns professionally, or escalates them, as appropriate.
- Able and willing to follow directions from supervisors, and follows protocols.
- Develops professional relationships with members.
- Attends all mandatory trainings and in-services.
- Actively create a welcoming dynamic that contributes to an environment where each individual is valued and respected.
- Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values including through personal role modeling.
- Attend JCC meetings, and actively participate in and support the JCC/the department's goals and initiatives.
- Other activities as required by the organization.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Must be 15 years of age or older at time of hire
- Must have prior experience working with children
- Must be able to complete SwimRight training within 2 weeks of hire
Skills & Abilities:
- Computer literate; must have working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications and Outlook email.
- Good communication skills ; must be able to effectively communicate with children and co-workers

Physical Requirements:
Must maintain an appropriate level of fitness in order to competently perform all job related tasks including the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, including.
- Must have the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequently
- Must be able to be in the pool for extended periods of time (2+ hours)
- Maintain an appropriate level of fitness to competently perform all job-related tasks including the ability to 1) swim distances of 25 meters, 2) dive to pool depth of 6 feet or more, and 3) lift 50 pounds or more
- Must be able to hold a child in the water
- Able to see, hear and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
- Ability to work in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods
- Ability to stand, sit and lay on the pool deck while moving their body in a way similar to how the participants in the water should (demonstrating)
- Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
