Founded in 1891 by a group of visionary volunteers, The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) is the nation’s premier conservation and preservation organization. The Trustees’ preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. Our properties are open to all, and we thrive by involving as many people as possible in all that we do. We aim to protect special places for future generations to enjoy in perpetuity, and have helped protect more than 50,000 acres, including 27,000+ acres on more than 120 reservations that are open to the public. Salary/Hourly Rate: $18-$20
Hours per week: 40 (7 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday, some nights and weekends)

What You’ll Do:
Your Impact:
As a limited term staff member, you'll play an integral role in ensuring that our visitors enjoy our extraordinary places. As the weather gets warmer, we experience an influx of visitors of all ages and backgrounds who want to explore and be inspired by our properties, and you'll help make their visit special!
The Role:
As a Steward, you'll help care for nine Trustees properties across the Southern Berkshires, including the gardens of the gilded-age estate Naumkeag, the hiking trails of Monument Mountain, and Bartholomew’s Cobble. You'll focus on seasonal maintenance, including landscaping, janitorial services, building maintenance, event support, and hiking trail maintenance.
Specifically, you’ll:
- Perform landscape maintenance
- Perform facilities/building maintenance
- Offer event support
- Perform hiking trail maintenance
This is a limited term nonexempt position (40 hours/week) reporting directly to the Stewardship Manager.
Requirements
What You’ll Need:
Skills and Experience:
- Required:
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be able to lift ~50 pounds.
- Must be able to work from ladders
- Able to bend, lift, and stand for prolonged periods
- Experience performing landscaping maintenance, facilities maintenance, building maintenance
- Ability to work effectively with a team
- Preferred:
- Previous experience in landscaping or trades preferred
Eligibility Criteria:
- Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
- A valid driver’s license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees’ driving policy. [if needed]
- A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
