Position Summary
Editas is seeking a detail-oriented professional to join our team. Reporting into the Accounting Manager, the ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and concepts in a publicly traded company environment. This role requires strong organizational skills, an aptitude to learn and implement process and technological improvements, excellent communication abilities, an inquisitive nature, a willingness to take initiative, and the ability to work independently to successfully manage time and prioritize tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for:
- Perform monthly close activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of various balance sheet and P&L accounts, including cash, investments, intercompany, PP&E, leases and various month-end accruals
- Collaborate with operational departments to drive the accrual and PP&E process, including leading conversations and providing education on process and accounting guidance
- Monitor, track, and record transactions related to PP&E, including fixed asset purchases, sales, disposals and impairments
- Assist with leading the external audit process, including being main point of contact for audit requests
- Assist with equity and payroll administration as needed, including preparing monthly new hire equity grants, processing terminations, equity payrolls and serving as a back-up payroll preparer for the Company’s regular payroll cycle
- Assist with the preparation of stock-based compensation expense in accordance with ASC 740, including financial statement disclosures
- Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual SEC filings, financial statements, and other management reports
- Drive, develop, and maintain the Company's narratives and internal control matrix for control cycles that the Senior Accountant role is responsible for performing
- Collaborate across the finance team and other operational departments on cross-functional initiatives including partnering with FP&A on budget-to-actual analyses
- Assist with preparation and presentation of finance results in internal meetings
- Ensure all accounting policies and procedures are documented and in line with relevant GAAP standards and regulatory requirements, including SOX
- Evaluate assigned processes and recommend improvement to maximize efficiencies and ensure conformity to internal policy and procedure and regulatory requirements
- Assist with ad hoc projects as required
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting
- Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, either public accounting or industry experience (including SOX and accrual experience)
- CPA qualified is preferred
- Experience implementing significant process and technology improvements, significant functional experience specifically in accounting operations in a publicly traded company environment
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently to handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
- In-depth knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and concepts
- Proficient in Excel, experience with Oracle Fusion, Equity Edge and ADP a plus
- Experience with reporting platforms, such as PowerBI, Smartview, Adaptive and Workiva a plus
