Posting Information: 

Salary/Hourly Rate:  $16.50 - $18.00

Hours per week: Saturdays, Sundays possibly Monday holidays, when the snow is on the ground December through March. Schedule is somewhat flexible. 2-6 hours per week total. Note: If we have no snow then there will be no work.  You should apply for the experience and enjoyment rather than to depend on the money.

Location: Notchview, Windsor, Massachusetts 

 

What You’ll Do:

Primary responsibilities consist of conducting group cross-country ski lessons for beginning and intermediate skiers.  Lessons are scheduled at 11 AM and 1 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.  You will likely share lesson times with other instructors so being present at every lesson is not required.   You will contact the staff at the Visitor Center prior to coming to determine if people have signed up for lessons.  If people have registered you will greet them at Notchview and conduct an approximately one hour lesson.  In addition to teaching cross-country skiing skills the lesson will include a short orientation to Notchview and to The Trustees.  Instructors will maintain a log book recording the lesson taught, the date and how many people in the lesson.  While the primary role of the instructor is to conduct group lessons at the advertised times. Instructors may give individual or family group lessons by separate arrangement. 

Requirements

Skills and Experience: 

  • Good natured, outgoing, excellent work ethic, safety conscious, patient, trustworthy, must be able to use tact in diffusing confrontations with uncooperative visitors. 
  •  It is preferred that candidates have PSIA certification as a level I Nordic instructor.  Or, candidates should have a history of high level skiing skills and be familiar with the PSIA curriculum.  Or, candidates should have prior experience teaching Nordic skiing.   
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate cross-country skiing proficiency if asked to do so.  
  • Applicants must have their own vehicle to get to Notchview for work.  

 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment. 
  • A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
