Full Job Description
JCC Greater Boston, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health and wellness within the community, is seeking a motivated and passionate Personal Trainer to join our team. As a Personal Trainer at JCC Greater Boston, you will play a vital role in helping our members achieve their fitness and wellness goals. In this position, you will provide personalized fitness instruction and guidance to individuals of all fitness levels, create customized workout plans, and motivate clients to achieve their desired results. Additionally, you will assist in developing and implementing innovative fitness programs and participate in community outreach initiatives to promote the benefits of physical activity and exercise.
This part-time position will pay a starting salary of $17 per hour for floor shifts, with the potential to earn over $52/hour based on sales performance. The salary offered will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is +/- 15 - 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:
Manages and maintains the fitness floor:
- Maintain a current schedule in the JCC-designated system. This includes scheduling all appointments, checking in all appointments, and ensuring that all clients are paid and current.
- Provide consultation and instruction to members on the floor; be responsive to members by offering assistance and educating them on the safe and correct use of cardiovascular and weight training equipment; provide consultation and assessments.
- Perform member fitness center orientations (Fit Plans) based on JCC’s protocol, evaluate health history, conduct assessments, demonstrate equipment usage, and develop a safe, effective workout plan.
- Circulate about the fitness floor at least once every 15-20 minutes and assist members in safe and effective exercise form.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized fitness floor by re-racking weights, picking up towels or trash, refilling the wipe containers & noting any needs for equipment repair.
- Report equipment issues to the Fitness Director.
- Adhere to minimum shift hours requirement based on weekly personal training clientele base.
- Follow the Daily Action Plan and complete all items on the checklist.
- Develop safe and effective exercise programs utilizing progression; programs are consistent with members’ goals/needs and within the scope of your education and knowledge you currently possess.
- Maintain up-to-date client records in Mind Body and be responsible for tracking pending client appointments and payments in Mind Body.
- Perform personal training following protocol and standards of practice; providing personal training for not more than half the scheduled fitness floor shift to allow for floor work and other required duties to be performed.
- Report any conflicts or concerns to the director.
Actively promotes JCC programs and fitness/wellness packages and promotions:
- Encourage new members to participate in other JCC program offerings: small group training classes, private Pilates sessions, group fitness classes, and adult/youth recreation programs
- Keep up-to-date on current JCC program offerings and promote the JCC personal training program during fitness center orientations, fitness floor shifts and contacting interested members within 24 hours of receiving a lead.
- Maintain a client base by selling new packages, and encouraging current clients to continue. Assist in development and implementation of new programs and classes.
Requirements
A degree in a fitness-related field and 5+ years experience in the health and fitness industry. Requires nationally accredited training certification (NASM, NSCA, ACSM, ACE) and CPR/AED Certification.
An Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.
Skills and Abilities:
- Computer skills, including Windows, Microsoft Excel, and fitness-related software
- Must possess up-to-date knowledge of fitness protocols
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multitask and manage situations effectively and diplomatically; ability to adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
- Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative.
- Superb interpersonal and active listening skills
- Works well independently and with others, building/sustaining collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to be physically present to work in a fast-paced, busy environment.
- Must be able to work some night and weekend hours.
- Position calls for sitting, standing, and walking throughout the building.
- Routinely lifts, carries and moves objects weighing up to 45 pounds.
