People Operations is responsible for ensuring that we have the best people, aligned against our most important business problems. This role is responsible for implementing People Operation strategies that are aligned with the overall business strategy including employee development and performance, benefits administration and general oversight of payroll and tax processing.
Role: The People Operations Manager has ownership for all core People Operations functions, including onboarding new hires, managing employee development and performance, and payroll and benefits administration. You will be a key stakeholder and facilitator in building and implementing thoughtful processes to keep our team engaged and productive. You will be the major point of contact for all employees on HR needs and questions.
This is a hybrid role located in the Bank's Corporate Office in Hingham, MA. The Bank would also consider candidates located in the greater Washington, D.C. area where the Bank maintains a growing presence at our office in Georgetown.
Responsibilities:
- Culture:
- Collaborate with colleagues to sustain a compelling Hingham brand that showcases our vision, mission, and culture to attract diverse, experienced, and capable talent for our team.
- Create an engaging environment that helps us celebrate our wins dramatically and learn from our mistakes appropriately.
- Work closely with leadership on recruiting and organizational design. Work through the challenges of a growing organization. Own all things people.
- Onboarding:
- Coordinate an employee on-boarding program that infuses new employees with our culture, ensures they become contributors quickly, and energizes them for what lies ahead.
- Performance Management and Development:
- Improve and sustain our performance management processes, including implementing practices in conjunction with the business units to enable employee professional growth and development. Identify repeatable opportunities for growth/development that can be shared across the business.
- Sensitive Situations:
- Provide company-wide support in complex or sensitive HR-related situations requiring independent judgment and detailed knowledge of applicable laws and regulations. Deal with grievances and violations invoking disciplinary action when required.
- Run a Tight Ship:
- Sustain and improve our employee policies, including internal policies and the employee handbook. Monitor adherence to these policies when appropriate and help other members of the leadership team in this regard.
- Payroll and Benefit Administration:
- Responsible for managing payroll and benefits administration in coordination with Finance
- Manage external benefits providers to ensure compliance with applicable HR laws and regulations.
Requirements
Proven Experience as HR or People Ops Leader: Substantial progressive and general HR experience demonstrating the capability to resolve complex organizational or employee relations issues, preferably in an environment where you were the sole operator for core HR areas or worked as part of small team.

- Be adept at handling multiple competing priorities and duties in a fast-paced, results-oriented, and rapidly changing environment
- Experience with a previous implementation of a structured interview process; understanding of modern applicant tracking systems; sourcing across diverse talent pools.
- Comfortable with implementing structure
- In-depth knowledge of legal requirements (Federal and State employment law) related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Experience working with distributed teams
