Candello, a division of CRICO (The medical malpractice insurer for the Harvard-affiliated hospitals), is a rapidly growing national medical malpractice data collaborative. We work with other health systems, captive insurers, and commercial malpractice insurers to receive their data, code and organize it, and provide access to and interpretation of data, and guidance on how to respond to trends or signals in the data. The mission of Candello is to help improve patient safety and reduce the risk of financial loss for Candello Members.
Foundational to CRICO's data-driven risk management strategy, Clinical Taxonomy Specialists with healthcare and risk management backgrounds apply our proprietary clinical taxonomy of codes to the legal and clinical elements embedded in medical malpractice cases for ultimate aggregation, analysis, and delivery of recommendations to improve patient safety.
The Manager of Nurse Clinical Coders has direct responsibility for management of all clinical coding related activities and services for CRICO and CRICO Candello Clients
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the management of the Candello remote team of Nurse Coders (Clinical Taxonomy Specialists), including
- Resourcing of coding services across all clients,
- Monitoring of quality and productivity of coding operations,
- Evaluate and provide ongoing feedback on staff performance and areas of improvement
- Acts as client liaison for recurring, ad hoc, and new client coding engagements.
- Participate in process improvement projects and support work needed to meet departmental and institutional goals
- Communicates progress and status to Candello Consultants and clients, participating in client update calls as needed.
- Responsible for the onboarding of new Candello Coding staff and clients as required.
- Works with Candello business and operations leadership to plan, project and track expectations and progress toward client and corporate goals.
- Collaborates on development and enhancement of clinical coding application.
- Leads efforts to enhance efficiencies in coding practice and recommends process improvements to coding workflow as appropriate.
- Drives the focus / development of coding education events including routine coding calls and the annual coders collaborative.
- Assists in tactical coding when needed
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge, Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Nursing degree or Hospital Case Management Experience required – Masters preferred.
- 8-10+ years of clinical background in healthcare.
- 3+ years of nursing leadership experience
- Ability to Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology / coding tools e.g. ICD10.
- Working Knowledge of healthcare organizations/providers with knowledge of clinical risk management and patient safety, adverse event reporting, quality metrics and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and independent thinking, remaining objective when applying clinical expertise to the error investigation and analysis of each case.
- Basic user of standard business software (e.g. MS Office).
