Full Job Description

Are you someone who enjoys working with your hands? Do you like being part of a hard-working, fun-loving team? The Maintenance and Grounds Specialist provides various services, resulting in a safe, smooth-running, and beautiful camp.

This part-time position will pay $25 per hour for 25 hours per week. The work schedule is broken out into a pre-camp season and an 'off-season'. The pre-camp season is from April 1 to mid-June and the 'off season' lasts from August to late November. Hours are flexible and will be determined by the Head of Maintenance. Camp Grossman is a day camp in Dover, MA, on 75 acres of the Hale Reservation.

Camp Grossman welcomes approximately 1,500 campers and 300 (plus) staff each summer. The team is a dynamic group that works to create a wonderful experience for children while assisting them in building confidence and skills. Our alumni can tell you Camp Grossman summers are an amazingly enjoyable way to spend your summers while developing great skills such as communication, leadership, time management, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Winterization and closing of camp
  • Light maintenance and cleaning
  • Assisting to prepare camp for opening
  • Ensure a safe, well-kept, welcoming environment
  • Interact with staff in a friendly, professional manner
  • Grounds work – caring for the lawn and general cleanliness of the camp
  • Repairs (e.g., light carpentry, bulb change outs…)
  • Trash collection
  • Cleaning – equipment, floors, bathrooms, and other areas, if identified

Requirements

High school education or equivalent required. Must have a valid driver’s license.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Skills & Abilities

  • Willing to learn new skills
  • Has a “do things well the first time” mindset
  • Great customer service (attitude and follow-through)
  • Capable of adhering to verbal instructions

Essential Functions

  • Able to properly use all chemicals and equipment per job training
  • Able to lift and move equipment as needed to properly clean around and behind the area
  • Able to carry and climb ladders, working while standing on ladders and work in confined spaces
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting and kneeling
  • Work in various temperature ranges and weather, primarily outdoors
  • Lift heavy objects, some exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Able to converse in English with staff and members
