Full Job Description
The Laboratory Electrochemistry Intern will work in a laboratory environment with Eden’s interdisciplinary R&D team to investigate electrical processes relevant to in-situ aqueous geological conditions. These investigations at varying ionic and pH conditions will support efforts relevant to the geothermal-, mining-, geological H2-, and CO2 sequestration industries. This role requires prior knowledge of electrochemical experimental and analytical techniques and protocols; experience with experimental design and apparatus development; and a curiosity-driven mindset. You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, conduct novel electrochemical tests, and support ongoing research programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Take an active role in laboratory investigations on electrochemical processes in solution and fractured media;
- Support geochemistry and electrical engineering research teams to help optimize electrical stimulation tool design;
- Determine electrochemical reaction pathways from electrolysis using AC, DC, and pulsed power stimulation;
- Assist with the design of down-hole tools;
- Collection and analysis of experimental and geochemical samples;
- Development and execution of sequential laboratory experimental plans;
- Conduct literature searches to support new experimental designs;
- Ensure laboratory equipment is working, calibrated, and fit for purpose;
- Prepare and present project updates, technical presentations, and reports for team members, clients, industry, and academic partners;
Requirements
- Pursuing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field with 2 years of experience in electrolysis, or
- Pursuing M.S/Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field with 2 years of experience in electrochemistry;
- Prior laboratory experience;
- Prior experience in experimental design and planning;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in making technical recommendations with incomplete information;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams;
- Geochemical and geomechanical experience is a bonus;
- Prior usage or understanding of IC, GC, and ICP instruments is a bonus;
- Experience with flow, heat, and electricity measurements is a bonus;
- Skills and prior experience with programming in MATLAB and LabView are a bonus;
- Eligible to work in the US without immediate sponsorship (e.g. F1 OPT and J1 AT are acceptable)
