Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a CIT Director. In this important role, you will be responsible for leading and developing the next generation of camp staff by providing hands-on training, guidance, and mentorship to our Counselors-in-Training (CITs). You will create a positive, growth-focused environment where CITs can learn and thrive while assisting in day-to-day camp operations and activities. You will also be responsible for ensuring CITs develop strong leadership, relational, and camp-specific skills to prepare them for future roles as camp counselors.

JCC Greater Boston is deeply committed to valuing and celebrating the uniqueness of each constituent. We welcome staff and participants from diverse backgrounds. While being proudly Jewish, we strive in every way to provide an open and welcoming setting for all, irrespective of personal practices, beliefs, or background. We are guided by JCC Greater Boston’s core values - Belonging, Joyfulness, Collaboration, and Transformation - which resonate with many who do not identify as Jewish.

Primary responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Create and lead bi-weekly training sessions to develop CITs' skills in leadership, communication, de-escalation, accountability, self-advocacy, relational dynamics, and camp-specific activities
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to help CITs build confidence and succeed in their roles
  • Assign weekly responsibilities to CITs based on their interests, skills, and comfort levels, while monitoring performance and providing individualized feedback
  • Track CITs' progress and recommend future counselor roles based on their development and potential
  • Manage and guide CIT behavior to help them adapt to camp culture, respond to discipline concerns and provide conflict resolution as needed
  • Stay overnight at Camp 5-6 times throughout the summer, overseeing CIT evening programming, ensuring a safe, supportive environment during overnight stays and facilitating leadership development
  • Collaborate with Camp Directors and senior staff to integrate CITs into their training roles and ensure they have the resources to succeed
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and leadership, ensuring CITs have a positive experience that supports their growth and prepares them for future counselor roles while still having a fun final camper summer

Standard staff expectations include and are not limited to:

  • Actively create a welcoming dynamic that contributes to an environment where everyone is valued and respected
  • Actively participate as an essential team member and attend all staff meetings during or after camp as required
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration, and transformation, including through role modeling
  • Enthusiastically represent the organization, modeling excellence and achievement
  • Complete all staff payroll and onboarding on time and before Orientation begins
  • Complete all pre-camp asynchronous on-line training modules and attend all pre-camp in-person orientation sessions
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a great chance to join JCC Greater Boston's respected and valued, people-orientated workplace of diverse community services providers, which is rapidly growing!
