Full Job Description

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s  Degree in Education or related area required; related years of experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • Experience in an urban and/or charter school setting strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to relate well to others.
  • Outstanding organizational and prioritization skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent with people; outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, proactive and able to accommodate high level of responsibility
  • Proven ability to multi-task and respond efficiently and effectively to new situations

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Assistant Dean will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the Dean of Students may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate.

1. Assist Dean and Principal with enforcing the behavioral and academic standards and expectations of Argosy

-- Complete required forms related to disciplinary issues (i.e. detention notices, ISS/OSS notices, etc.)

-- Contact parents/guardians regarding such discipline; meet with parents to discuss disciplinary circumstances; meet with staff on behalf of student when necessary

-- Update schoolwide data with regards to school discipline for review by school administration and the Board of Trustees

2. Use LiveSchool to keep track of student disciplinary issues and inform Dean of Students of scholars with serious and/or multiple infractions;

3. Record and keep written notes of all meetings with grade level team leaders, grade level teams, parents/students; address academic/behavior concerns

4. Sets-up meetings with parents regarding major behavioral/disciplinary issues; assist Dean of Students in academic and disciplinary meetings, as needed

5. Collaborate with Principals, Directors, and Student Adjustment Counselors to address needs of students with multiple/repeated disciplinary issues as well as student relationships. These meetings may address the relationship between behavior and academics.

6. Prepare daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly positive rewards and student assemblies (in conjunction with Dean of Students);

7. Prepare and display data detailing individuals and homerooms who have met classroom  and school behavior expectations

8. Support the Dean of Students with the monitoring of all Student Behavior Management Plans in collaboration with the  School Adjustment Counselors

9. Monitor the number of In-School and Out-of-School student suspensions and notify the Director of Student Support when students have reached a number of suspensions requiring the completion of a Manifest Determination; attend meetings with parents, scholars, and grade level team

10. In collaboration with the Dean of Students, monitor attendance and conduct appropriate interventions and meeting with parents/guardians

11. Develop, implement, and supervise new scholar incentive programs to improve relationships between staff and scholars

12. Arranges transportation for scholars; partners with the local school district to provide effective, safe, organized transportation

13. Partner with the transportation provider to ensure scholars are meeting expectations during travel to and from school

14. Provide report to Vice Principals and Executive Director indicating outstanding student/parent  behavior/academic concerns, attend Vice Principal meetings with Executive Director as needed

15. Collect and review disciplinary records for Awards nominees

16. Any other duties or responsibilities related to this position as assigned by the Principal or Executive Director.
