American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher (SY24-25 - High School)

What You’ll Do

As an American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher at Veritas Prep, you will provide engaging and effective instruction to high school students in ASL. You will play a vital role in fostering students' language acquisition skills, cultural understanding, and appreciation for Deaf culture. This position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and empower students to become proficient communicators and advocates for the Deaf community.

Responsibilities:

• Teach American Sign Language classes in grades 9-12
• Develop and deliver curriculum that aligns with state standards and the school's mission
• Create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment
• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students
• Incorporate technology and multimedia resources to enhance learning
• Assess student progress and provide timely feedback
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate ASL instruction across disciplines and promote cross-cultural understanding
• Participate in department meetings, professional development, and school events
• Contribute to the school's inclusive and anti-racist initiatives

Requirements

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
• ASLTA certification or equivalent
• Experience teaching American Sign Language
• Knowledge of Deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of Deaf students
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to work with colleagues
• Passion for fostering a positive learning environment
• Commitment to ongoing professional development
