Ripple Effect is seeking a Technical Writer to perform analytical writing on a full-time basis to support our research evaluations. As a Technical Writer, you will collaborate closely with subject matter experts to understand complex mixed methods and translate the findings into insightful output for various audiences.

Responsibilities will include writing, editing, and formatting evaluation reports, white papers, meeting notes, contract summaries, monthly reports, and any other technical or lay documents. You will also contribute to data visualization and infographics to effectively communicate research findings. This position will have a focus on technical writing, editing, copyediting, and formatting for science and health communications. The successful applicant must also be willing to learn new topic areas to write compelling content.

  • Salary Range: $72,709.00 - $83,616.00 per year (how we pay and promote)  

Responsibilities  

  • Writes and edits a wide variety of materials to convey complex information clearly
  • Performs analyses to identify findings to be highlighted in plain language
  • Provides research, writing, and copy-editing functions to ensure materials are presented with one voice
  • Produces client-ready communications documents and publications
  • Edits materials with technical accuracy, grammar, punctuation, internal consistency, and other metrics as defined on a project basis
  • Simplifies complex materials for effective presentation to a target audience and translates complex jargon to technically accurate plain language
  • Utilizes best practices for writing /editing such as: maintaining continuity of style, voices, and complying with style guides
  • Provides technical advice on approaches to accomplish project objectives and provides oversight of implementation efforts
  • Drafts meeting notes, and tracks meeting related content including agenda topics, participant list, pre- and post-work to accomplish program objectives
  • Provides expert advice to develop a wide range of deliverables in support of the program including reports, memos, communications, presentations, briefing decks, and training materials.
  • Ensures deliverables are of high quality and adhere to guidelines for format, content and accessibility
  • Contributes to new processes and procedures to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of team's operations
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 6 years of relevant experience
  • 2 years technical/science writing and copy-editing experience

Basic Requirements

  • Ability to translate complex content and concepts in plain language through writing and editing
  • Ability to conduct research to draft accurate and appropriate audience-specific content
  • Ability to edit materials as directed to meet client needs and in compliance with style guides (including strong working knowledge of GPO, AMA, and Chicago style manuals)
  • Excellent grammatical/punctuation skills
  • Writes and sends emails, meeting invitations, and other client and internal communications
  • Ability to prioritize among multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for face-to-face interactions with clients, co-workers, senior leaders and stakeholders. 
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office suite, especially Word, Teams, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work productively and collaboratively in SharePoint or Teams to accomplish tasks

Skills That Set You Apart

  • Degree in science or health field
  • More than two years of experience in health or science-based technical writing
  • Proficiency in 508 compliance
  • Certification(s) in writing or editing
  • Experience with federal government contracting, especially NIH
  • Critical thinking with the ability to connect-the-dots across a project
