Plumbers on the NAS Patuxent River team come from all areas of the Tri County of Southern Maryland including California, Ridge, Hollywood, Mechanicsville, Leonardtown, Waldorf, Laplata, Lusby, Solomons. Primary responsibilities of the Plumber include assembling, installing and repairing pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems. The Plumber follows all specifications and plumbing codes to ensure the water supply networks and waste/drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained in accordance with building codes. The ideal EMI Plumber is a member of Steamfitters UA Local 602 / Incumbent and has a current Plumber Journeyman License.
Salary
$40.38/ hr. plus a health and welfare benefit of $26.66.

Key Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain plumbing
- Replace washers in leaky faucets, mend burst pipes, and open clogged drains using specialized equipment (jetter)
- Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipe
- composed of metal, pvc, fiberglass and vitrified clay
- Join pipe by use of bolted flanges, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulk joints
- May bend pipe to required angle using pipe-bending tool
- Fills pipe system with water or air and read pressure gauge to determine if system is leaking
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Essential Skills
- Experience in maintaining, repairing, installing and operating plumbing systems
- includes pipes, traps, plumbing fixtures, back flow prevention systems, water and drain lines, pressure vessels and control system
- Knowledge of building architectural/structural elements including alterations and repairs
- Adheres to policies and procedures
- Adaptable and flexible in work situations
- Prioritizes tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner
- PRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies
- Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years experience in the plumbing trades
- Current Plumber Journeyman License
- Current Backflow Prevention Certification
- Regular, dependable attendance
- OVERTIME- Available evenings & weekends
- Valid driver’s license
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
- U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
- Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
- Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
- Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
- Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment.
- May spend long hours in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions.
- May also come in contact with potential poisons and gases that could cause injury or illness.
- Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with sewer and water
