Operational Excellence Manager | Landover, MD | On-Site FTE

  • Complexity of Role:  This role operates within a single manufacturing plant, requiring collaboration and engagement across the facility to drive Operational Excellence initiatives. Without direct reporting lines, the Operational Excellence Manager will need to influence and engage 100 employees across Production, Quality, Warehouse, and Maintenance to align on and achieve site-wide objectives.
  • Primary Stakeholders: US Supply Chain Team, Landover factory.

What are the Key Responsibilities of this role?

Factory Performance Improvement

  • Collaborate with departments at the Landover site to implement waste elimination and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manage Site Improvements through project plan development, results tracking and leading and coaching site leaders through Hoshin process.
  • Delivers effective Continuous Improvement training courses (LEAN Training, Belt training, etc.) to help increase team capability and awareness of the Continuous Improvement tools. (i.e. 5’s, standard work, 7 wastes, visual management etc.

People Management

  • Coaching and development of direct reporting roles.

Business Support

  • Drive the transformation from a reactive organizational culture to a more preventative and predictable one, leveraging data-driven decision-making, sustainable actions, and Continuous Improvement tools. This leader will collaborate with indirect functions such as R&D, Sales, Planning, Distribution, and Marketing to support and align broader business goals.
  • Actively participate in benchmarking and CI Network connections to identify, translate and promote best practices that can be applied in the plant. Lead the organization's TBEM submissions and development by implementing identified Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs).

Requirements

What are the Critical success factors for the Role ?

  • 5+ years minimum experience in Food Production or FDA regulated environment.
  • Proven track record in implementing continuous improvement and lean manufacturing programs.
  • Proven track record of delivering sustained benefits through education and coaching of CI tools and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate and work with teams at all organizational levels from Senior Management to Operators.
  • Experience using ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) to drive production improvements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration, communication, and influencing skills to drive alignment and results across teams.
  • Continuous Improvement (CI) mindset and approach to processes.
  • Positive mindset and flexibility to adapt in a dynamic and demanding growth environment.
  • Consistently achieves breakthrough financial results. Strong analytical skills to support ROI calculations.
  • Operational Excellence related certification is desirable (i.e. Lean, DOE, Six Sigma Belt etc.).
