Full Job Description

LAC Federal is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Engineer Level III for a critical role in Bethesda, MD. This key position involves managing, coordinating, and executing all aspects of network resource planning, analysis, and administration of a complex LAN/WAN infrastructure. The Communications Engineer will design and implement new network solutions, integrate cutting-edge products, and recommend improvements to enhance network performance and security.

As a senior-level leader, you will oversee technical staff, manage complex technical tasks and projects, and maintain high communication standards with Government personnel, vendors, and service providers. This role also involves problem identification, providing recommendations, and ensuring the highest quality standards in network operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of network resource planning, including analysis of needs and services, for a robust LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  • Design, plan, and execute new network implementations, integrating new products, and recommending improvements to existing LAN/WAN systems.
  • Collaborate closely with IT security teams to plan and implement network and security solutions.
  • Provide senior-level leadership to technical staff, overseeing the execution of complex technical tasks and projects.
  • Maintain communication with Government personnel, hardware/software vendors, and service providers, ensuring smooth operation and administration of network systems.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement solutions to network-related problems, maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of network systems and supervise contract staff to ensure operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience working with Juniper, Cisco, Arista, and Nexus routers/switches, or equivalent, as well as remote access equipment.
  • Expertise in network management and monitoring systems such as HP Openview or equivalent, VPNs, Firewalls, LAN probes, and network analysis equipment.
  • Proven experience with Multi-Gigabit Ethernet equipment and systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of protocols including TCP/IP (versions 4 and 6), BGP, OSPF, and HSRP.
  • Proficiency in creating network diagrams using appropriate software.
  • Ability to lead junior staff, perform complex technical analyses, and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with team members, managers, and Government personnel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working within a federal government or healthcare environment.
  • Certifications such as CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent are highly desirable.
