Summary of Responsibilities

STEM Preschool (SPS) Potomac, Maryland is seeking to hire an experienced Director to manage day-to-day operations and establish and sustain a positive learning environment for young children. SPS is licensed to care for 90 children, ages Infants - 11 years of age.

The SPS Director: oversees the coordination of education programs that comply with Federal and city regulations; manages SPS accreditations; maintains a safe and educational environment for young children; manages SPS staff; works with the teachers to develop curricula and lesson plans; communicates with parents; and upholds SPS's great reputation and service for the Potomac, Maryland area.

The SPS Director shall have demonstrable experience in managing all aspects of a day care or childcare center or nursery school, as well as strong leadership skills. The Director must work collaboratively with STEM Preschool management, have a love for children, and strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment for both children and SPS staff.

SPS Director Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Evaluate and purchase materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Manage and support teaching staff and promote their professional development.
  • Interview, hire, and train new staff members, ensuring they meet all laws, regulations, and policies
  • Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up-to-date on childcare standards- and procedures.
  • Communicate and meet with parents regarding their children and the center’s policies.
  • Work with SPS management to develop a budget and, once approved, manage and oversee the budget.
  • Meet regularly with SPS management.
  • Maintain employee files and background checks accordingly.
  • Maintain a current food handling certification.
  • Run monthly tuition.

Center Culture
· Create and actively promote a friendly and welcoming environment where every child, parent, family, and visitor is warmly welcomed and treated with respect.
· Conduct center tours to potential families.
· Represent the center in the community and act as a liaison with other agencies.
· Maintain an environment accepting and respectful of child and family cultures, values, and differences.
· Motivate staff by maintaining a positive attitude and leading by example.
· Provide families and employees with community resources. Plan and organize special programs (holiday events, classroom plays, cultural and educational programs, workshops, etc.)
· Establish and maintain a healthy, safe, and positive work environment. Maintain confidentiality, encourage trust and loyalty among all employees.
· Communicate changes, reminders, or important information regarding the center or classroom to families and employees.

· Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and sensitive situations.

Curriculum & Assessments
· Ensure all children receive enriching educational programming with a focus on positive experiences and child outcomes. This consists of formal and informal assessments of all aspects of educational programming, including but not limited to classroom environment and management; curricular planning, implementation and assessment; individualization; family-centered practices; and education resource provisions.
· Review, provide feedback and assist teaching staff in reflecting on curriculum, classroom environment, classroom management, and child assessments. (formal as well as informal).
· On a daily/weekly/monthly basis, review and approve teacher lesson plans.
· Conduct classroom observations to ensure lesson plans are being implemented effectively.
· Provide teachers assistance in developing a domain-based curriculum that is fortified with meaningful experiences while meeting the needs and interests of the group and individual child.
· Review and approve all staff-created assessments for the children.
· Oversee the center's library and art supplies to ensure age-appropriate and curriculum-related material are available for staff use.

Staff Development and Support

· Provide teaching staff with necessary curriculum documents and resources.
· Provide support and guidance to the staff and parent to each child's individual learning needs.
· Lead frequent staff meetings.
· Assist staff in resolving conflicts between children.
· Communicate available professional development training opportunities
· Train teachers on using the assessment tools, BrightWheel, etc.
· Ensure teachers meet annual training requirements.
· Participate in staff annual evaluations.
· Respond and resolve concerns relating to the operation of a classroom or the center.

· Interview and hire qualified staff. Provide appropriate orientation and training.

Requirements

Education Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or in related fields of Child Development Elementary Education Background

· Meet the Montgomery County Preschool Director Requirements for a center.

· Hold current certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR

Experience Requirements: 3+ years of experience in childcare or early childhood development

· Demonstrated success in implementing and overseeing staff, education, state programs and/or credential requirements

· Ability to ensure school resources are planned for, identified, and allocated appropriately to meet the program requirements on time, on budget, and in a high-quality manner

· Strong program and project management, interpersonal, and analytical skills

· Ability to pass state and federal education background checks.

Pay: $60,000 - $75,000.00 per year + Monthly Bonus
