Bethesda Area Bike Shop Seeks Skilled Bicycle Mechanic

Join the Bethesda Bike and Ski team as a Bicycle Mechanic, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of bicycles and e-bikes in our community. Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical components, providing exceptional service to our customers. This role demands strong technical skills, attention to detail, a passion for bikes and e-bikes, and a willingness to learn to become a Ski Tech.

Responsibilities:

• Inspect bicycles for mechanical, electrical, or performance issues.
• Diagnose and repair brakes, gears, chains, pedals, wheels, forks, etc.
• Perform routine maintenance like tune-ups, lubricating chains and adjusting gears.
• Replace worn parts (tubes, tires, brake pads, cables, derailleurs).
• Install accessories and upgrades (lights, bells, racks, suspension systems).
• Test ride repaired bikes for proper functioning and alignment.
• Provide repair cost estimates and timeframes.
• Assist customers in selecting bikes or accessories.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly store tools and parts.
• Stay updated on industry trends, new models, and technology.

Required Skills:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and technical knowledge of bicycle components and systems.
• Proficiency with Shimano, and SRAM. (Campagnolo, a plus)
• Skilled in diagnosing and repairing various bicycle types, including mountain, road, hybrid, and electric bikes.
• Familiarity with bicycle repair tools and equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
• Good communication skills for customer interactions.
• Efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical stamina and dexterity for manual labor.
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
• Willingness to learn ski tech skills is a plus.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a Bicycle Mechanic or similar role.
• Certification from a recognized bicycle repair training program is a plus.
• Proficiency in using computer software for inventory management and customer records is a plus.
