Full Job Description

Maintenance Technician Level 1 is an entry level position who assists shop leadership in the assembly and fabrication of custom projects and maintaining shop equipment and facilities. Starting skills will include basic shop roles such as part preparation and work area cleanliness while learning tooling, fabrication, assembly and maintenance techniques. As skill levels progress, more independent action and ability would be expected to progress to Maintenance Technician or Welder/Fitter Level 2.

Advanced skill may include reading and understanding fabrication documents, sourcing the required materials, measuring & cutting materials, joining materials using welding techniques, assembling machined parts with limited direction.

All duties include selecting procedures and methods best suited for the job to ensure the work is performed in a safe manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Move and position raw materials and finished goods by use of pallet jacks, forklifts, and shop cranes. Assist in safely preparing rigging for overhead lifting as directed.
  • Prepare parts for fitting or welding as directed.
  • Operate various drilling, cutting, torches and other tools and equipment to create a wide variety of parts from shop drawings as directed that conform to specifications.
  • Assist in fitting or welding as directed including layout, clamping, fixturing, marking, etc.
  • Perform a variety of welding/fabrication tasks including weld cleaning, grinding, etc.
  • Use drawings, specifications, and verbal instructions to assemble structures.
  • Recording any fabrication documentation or testing results as required.
  • Perform light maintenance on equipment.
  • Perform regular facilities related operations on buildings, grounds, and/or related facilities as required.
  • Support and participate in the organization’s continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 and understand the implications of not complying with the quality management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic math proficiency includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and fractions and understanding of units of measurement.

Experience:

  • One (1) – Three (3) years of maintenance, welding or fabrication experience preferred.
  • Experience working in an industrial shop/manufacturing a plus.
  • Practical education may be accepted in lieu of experience.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment a plus.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of all safety practices associated with welding, fabrication, cutting and mechanical work.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, sketches, schematics, and drawings.
  • Ability to use grinders, welders, cutting torches, drill presses, pipe threaders, and other basic mechanical tools.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jacks, and shop cranes.
  • Ability to safely rig lifting devices.

Physical & Safety Requirements:

  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.
  • If needed, able to work rotating day and night shifts.
  • Regular exposure to a production environment.
  • Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements required by SIT or clients.
  • Must be able to pass the required drug test.
