Position Overview:
Our Client is looking for a self-driven and highly motivated Tooling Engineer Lead to oversee tooling strategies, mold development, and the procurement and validation of molds for large-scale manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in the injection molding industry with a strong focus on mold design and tool construction. This senior-level position will be responsible for managing tooling projects, optimizing performance, and ensuring the use of innovative technologies in mold development.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement tooling strategies that align with production goals.
- Lead and manage new tool construction projects, ensuring efficient design and implementation.
- Oversee the tooling repair department, ensuring timely maintenance and performance optimization.
- Design and develop tooling, fixtures, and gages for production processes, ensuring compatibility with high-tonnage presses and advanced equipment.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tooling for large-scale machinery operations.
- Monitor tooling performance and make recommendations for improvements.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for tooling processes.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure tooling reliability and quality.
- Research and implement new technologies to improve mold performance, maintenance, and construction.
- Work with engineering teams to ensure product designs are moldable and suggest design improvements or alternative processes.
- Proactively seek opportunities for continuous improvement in tooling and mold technologies.
- Assist with process improvement in manufacturing operations.
Requirements
Must Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in the injection molding industry, with a focus on tool design and mold construction.
- 10+ years in a supervisory and management capacity.
- Experience working with large-scale machinery, including high-tonnage presses.
- Hands-on experience in mold design and construction.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks).
- Ability to read and interpret Moldflow analyses.
- Experience with cold runner and hot runner manifold systems.
- Background in plastics manufacturing processes including injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, and thermoforming.
- Strong project management skills with experience leading complex tooling projects.
- Ability to travel regularly, including weekly travel as required.
