Mize CPAs Inc. was recently named a Top 200 Workplace for 2024 by USA Today! We are a leading regional accounting and IT firm with offices in Topeka and Overland Park, Kansas. Our firm works with clients in a number of industries and has a rapidly growing restaurant and hospitality division that serves clients nationwide.
We are looking for an in-person only Internal Accounting Assistant in the Topeka office. Full-time availability is needed, 40 hours per week. After initial training of approximately 3 - 6 months, a hybrid-remote work schedule can be discussed.
If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have experience assisting with reviewing the firm payroll including payroll analysis and preparing federal and state payroll tax filings. This position will also assist with accounts payable and daily 401(k) management functions, along with suppporting the Internal Controller with data entry, scanning, maintaining forms, bookkeeping, and working with Excel spreadsheets.
Esssential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Set up and maintain client records in time and billing system
- Assist with routine billing and analysis as required
- Enter and transmit ACH batch files
- Prepare and post journal entries into the general ledger
- Perform simple account reconciliations
- Maintain fixed asset records and reports
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements
- Assists with the preparation of the budget
- Prepares federal and state tax deposits and annual tax forms, such as W-2s,1099s, and multi-state filings
- Performs bi-weekly internal payroll review and reporting
- Completes internal payroll entries to the general ledger
- Assist with monthly payroll and bank reconciliations and related journal entries
- Assist with the daily administration of the firm's 401(k) Plan
- Assists in the recurring administration of the firm’s insurance and risk transactions
- Files annual reports in designated states
- Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- In-office work during training, due to the interaction necessary with the trainer; amount of time required will vary based on the individual's experience and abilities
- Individuals at this level normally have a high school diploma or equivalence
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Minimum of 2 years' office experience
- Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office suite
- Excellent typing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong technical knowledge and skills
- Proficiency in use of accounting and tax software
- Creative problem-solving ability
- Prior experience working in a CPA firm or professional office environment
