Overview / Job Summary:
The Assistant Director, Data Systems is responsible for working collaboratively within the college to advance analytics and data quality initiatives. This position will work with staff from the Institutional Effectiveness, Student Services, Academics, Information Technology, and Sponsored Projects areas and will champion efforts to improve data-driven decision-making related to student success. The Assistant Director, Data Systems will serve as the primary point of contact from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to meet with user groups related to reporting needs, report development, data systems use, predictive analytics, process documentation, and training. Working with data owners and data stewards to document data standards and improve data quality will also be important tasks for this position. This position will be responsible for advancing the use of predictive analytics at the college.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary, but are not limited to:
- Develops a comprehensive knowledge of existing system functionality and data. These include the Student Information System (Banner), Degree Works, EAB Navigate, Canusia, Learning Management System (Canvas) and CRM (Slate). Stays updated on system capabilities and additional features available that might enhance reporting and data related to student success.
- Enhances predictive analytics use at the college by working with staff on data systems integrations, data architecture improvements, and report development.
- Communicate with college faculty/staff to determine reporting needs and user training requirements. Seeks to understand business processes utilized across departments.
- Develops a comprehensive understanding of the institutional data structure that will assist with data auditing, report accuracy, and report writing. Audits reports and assists with data validation as needed.
- Meet regularly with report user groups to receive feedback and work through report specifications and/or development challenges.
- Develops and delivers training for the college’s reports and dashboards.
- Supports the college’s data governance and data management efforts. Documents data standards with data owners, data stewards, and the data governance committee. Assists with building and maintaining an institution-wide data dictionary and report-specific documentation.
- Manages projects from the initial planning phase through implementation and review with the ability to meet deadlines throughout.
- Coordinates report development, testing, and distribution to college report consumers.
- Supports additional quality improvement projects assigned by the Executive Director, Institutional Effectiveness.
- Ensures confidentiality and compliance with college policies and procedures; county, state, and federal regulations; and accreditation requirements as related to institutional effectiveness, research, and planning.
Positions funded in whole by external grants may be subject to immediate termination if the grant funding ceases. Those positions funded in part by external grants will be reviewed by the College for viability in the absence of grant funds.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a business, social science, computer science, data analytics, or a related discipline.
Experience:
- Fundamental knowledge of descriptive statistics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data visualization software including Power BI or Tableau.
- Minimum of two years of experience managing projects which demonstrates an ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, prioritizing multiple complex projects from beginning to end meeting all deadlines.
- Minimum of one year of experience creating process documentation.
- Minimum of one year of experience working on projects involving data analysis.
- Experience working with student-level data in an institution of higher education, preferred.
- Experience with software or process documentation, preferred.
- Experience creating and delivering training sessions, preferred.
