Full Job Description
The Iowa Primary Care Association is currently seeking a Dental Assistant to join the team at a community health center in Council Bluffs, IA.
What is a community health center (FQHC)?
- The largest source of comprehensive primary care for medically under-resourced communities and populations.
- They have an integrated care model - medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services, patients can access comprehensive, coordinated services often under one roof.
Position Details:
- Full time, 40 hours/week;
- Clinic hours: M-Thurs 8AM - 7PM and Friday 8AM - 5PM
- 7 operatories
- Primary responsibilities are to prepare patients for a visit, check-in and check-out patients and schedule appointments and reappointments.
- Procedural skills desired: impressions, radiographs, comfortable with root canals.
Duties:
- Prepares, cleans, and sets up operatories for patient appointments.
- Takes and mounts dental radiographs (x-rays).
- Prepares sterile instruments and equipment.
- Prepares patients for their appointment and discharge.
- Asks about patient's medical history.
- Takes blood pressure and pulse.
- Performs dental assistant duties per provider workflow and practice.
- Provides and assists with patient discharge.
- Provides patients with instruction for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedure.
- Registers patients for appointment.
- Assists with documentation for accurate billing and charting.
Requirements
- Active Dental Assisting Certificate in the state of Iowa
- Iowa Radiology Certification, or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire
- Sterilization Certification a plus
- Previous training and experience in dental assisting.
