Research Director / Senior Research Director

Glass

Chicago, illinois

Job Details

Full-time

Full Job Description

Who We Are:

Glass is a small, growing market research company (start-up).  We aim to be the sweet spot between the flexibility of a user-friendly DIY survey platform and the professional expertise found in traditional full-service research agencies.

Our proprietary survey platform allows customers complete visibility into their projects and the ability to own as much or as little, of each project as they like.  This same platform allows our research team to conduct high-quality research in a way that’s cost and time-efficient.

We're a values-based business.  Our team represents a group that:

-   Puts clients first

-   Cares about people (both our customers and each other!)

-   Embodies a glass-half-full mindset

-   Demonstrates a team over self attitude

-   Lives with a bias towards action

-   Believes fun and high-quality work are not at odds

The Team:

This Research Director/ Sr. Director role is part of our Research Team.  This team is made up of research experts.  Our Directors bring a mix of supplier-side and client-side research experience– each truly industry veterans and expert.

We know from experience that clients want expertise at all phases of engagement with a research firm, so we aren’t about keeping our researchers behind the scenes. Our research team owns the role of customer service and success- meaning they need to be equally comfortable heads-down in the data while participating in a client meeting or presentation.

The Role:

We're looking for an entrepreneurial Research Director who wants to grow by helping clients succeed and building differentiating capabilities.

This person will be responsible for working with our clients to help understand their research needs and show how Glass can fit their needs. Further, this person will lead client projects from start to finish- from initial proposal to final report and presentation.

This role will have 1 to 2 direct reports– Research Managers who support work across multiple Directors.

This is an opportunity to join early as we grow our team and clients, with a strategic seat at the table as a senior leader in a growing startup.

This role can be at the Director or senior director level, depending upon experience, areas of expertise, and the level of value-added.

Requirements

Who You Are:

  • You’re a researcher who, at your core, is a team player.  You enjoy rolling up your sleeves and working collaboratively to achieve. We help clients make big decisions quickly, but never without tremendous thought and analysis. You can shift nimbly between being in the details and seeing the bigger picture to help make that happen.
  • You have 8 or more years of experience in the research industry, with at least 3 being supplier-side and at least 3 being client-facing.  A mix of client-side and supplier-side experience is a plus.
  • You consider yourself a research expert.  You bring a deep understanding of both quant and qual methodologies and can help leverage these to solve our customers’ complex needs- but a particularly strong emphasis on quant knowledge.
  • You have experience working with Fortune 500 customers in an account leadership-related role, preferably having experience working with CPG, Retail, Media, and/or Entertainment customers.
  • While you’ve had experience working higher-level, you’re also able to and eager to run research projects from ideation to execution.  You’re equally comfortable leading a client brainstorming session as you are heads-down building a questionnaire or working through a dataset.
  • You’re excited about how new technology and business models can disrupt the research industry and help organizations conduct studies in cost-effective and timely ways.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of multiple research projects and client accounts at once.  Work with the team to provide excellent customer service and conduct best-in-class research.
  • Grow adoption of and increased engagement with the Glass Platform within our top clients by becoming a strategic partner.
  • Lead and help manage a team by providing professional development and coaching to Research Managers.
  • Contribute in a senior leadership role to the success and growth of the company by supporting ad hoc needs that arise for operational updates and implementing process changes, participating in hiring/resource planning and onboarding, and providing feedback on the platform for product development.
  • Support a growing business and the diverse needs of start-up life!  These needs are constantly evolving, which should be exciting to you.  You’re ready to roll up your sleeves and jump in as a key member of the team.

As part of a small, fast-growing team, you’ll have the unique opportunity to see various product categories and industry types and be involved in all facets of the research process.

You’ll have a hand in cross-functional efforts and a voice in who we are and how we grow.

This role is fully remote.  Our Executive team and Directors are all based in either Atlanta or Chicago, so team members working in those areas would have in-person working opportunities.  Strong preference to applicants living in or near Atlanta or Chicago.
