Preschool Teacher

About Us:

Covenant Nursery School is a nonprofit, part-day preschool that embraces a developmentally appropriate, nature-infused, play-based approach to learning. By working hand in hand with caregivers, we strive to create a warm, nurturing, and inviting environment for both children and families. We place a high value on educating children about the importance of nature and our connection to it.

Hours:

• Classroom hours are 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM Monday-Friday. Additional time is required for curriculum planning, weekly meetings with co-teachers, parent conferencing, conference write-ups, biweekly staff meetings, and various school events.
• The Multi-Age class comprises of up to 20 students with two lead teachers.
• Optional enrichment opportunities are available daily from 11:45 AM to 1:15 PM.

Responsibilities:

• Create an engaging classroom environment that stimulates thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving.
• Collaborate as a team to prepare and execute a curriculum that meets the developmental needs of all children, with a focus on the social-emotional development of our youngest learners.
• Support children and parents in navigating the separation process.
• Communicate regularly with parents/caregivers in person, via email, and through Seesaw.
• Document classroom experiences through photo journaling, work samples, and parent displays.
• Conduct conferences three times a year: an initial meeting with parent and child before the school year begins, fall phone conferences, and in-person meetings with parents during the second half of the school year. Fall and spring conferences are accompanied by written reports provided to parents.
• Observe and assess children according to Covenant’s assessment plan.
• Participate annually in 15 required hours of professional development in early childhood and nature education.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

• Additional experience in Nature Education and/or a passion for the outdoors.
• Strong communication and writing skills, along with warmth, enthusiasm, professionalism, and flexibility.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Preschool Teacher
• Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
• Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
• Excellent communication and instructional skills
• Ability to act as mediator between children
• Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
• Balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen
• Certification in child CPR
• BSc/BA in education or relevant field
• Valid licence to practice profession
