JOB SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Engineer performs daily engineering functions that consist of Method of Manufacture and drawing preparation or editing, including the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works individually or in a team environment, per Prince’s APQP process, to ensure that new parts, revised parts or new processes to manufacture parts are established.
- Initiates, prepares and completes all necessary Methods of Manufacture [Bill of Material and Router] related to the manufacture of a part to the customer’s print.
- Prepares production prints using Adobe or Solid Works software based upon customer supplied drawings [usually Adobe files]; also utilizes manufacturers' spec sheets or other quality specifications in the creation of production prints.
- Creates and revises process routings for new, reoccurring and rework job orders, as well as Methods of Manufacture, based upon feedback from Production or vendors.
- Creates, updates or revises production prints as needed.
- Creates engineering or fixture drawings as assigned by department supervisor.
- Works with necessary personnel in Production Control, Purchasing and production department supervisors to expedite necessary information concerning technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design/test problems in order to assure accurate and timely completion of engineering quotes.
- Daily uses of computer ERP system (Epicor) to input, track and locate information as needed in accordance to established company guidelines.
- May assist in recommending, evaluating and verifying engineering changes, specifications and drawing releases and obtains all necessary required authorizations.
- Performs administrative duties that relate to the job, to include: filing quotes, copying prints and releases prints to shop floor.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor; may include department transfers or special projects in order to meet production needs.
- Contacts customers as required to discuss and clarify technical issues.
- Contacts vendors as required to discuss and clarify technical issues in the manufacture of parts.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree required in Engineering (or related field of study) or 2 year technical certification with equivalent related engineering or machining experience required.
- Apprenticeship, formal training, college course work or continuing education preferred.
- Hands on experience running CNC lathes and mills preferred, as well as knowledge of secondary assembly, grinding or honing operations preferred.
- Experience with inspection methods for various tolerance requirements [up to ± .XXXX] preferred
- Experience with OSP Heat Treatment, Plating, & Grinding/Lapping [and their effects on tolerances] preferred.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient in the use of current AutoCAD and Solid Works software applications.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry to apply concepts to practical situations
- Excellent troubleshooting or problem resolution skills.
- Excellent computer skills to perform data input and inquiry. (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)
- Excellent organizational skills required to complete work assignments and prioritize urgent matters in order to meet deadlines established.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure: involves coping with stress and maintaining a composed, professional manner in all circumstances related to employees or customers.
- Excellent knowledge of engineering concepts and practices.
- Good knowledge of related turning and milling machine equipment and basic tooling or material requirements.
- Good knowledge of inspection methods for turned or milled parts
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to sit, stand or walk the duration of the shift, 8-10 hours.
- Occasionally required to lift, push or pull up to 30 lbs.
- Frequently required to sit, stoop, kneel reach or bend.
- Regularly exposed to moving machine parts when in plant.
