Position Title & Overview:
The Manager of Business Development will be responsible for growing Mediavine’s list of publishers across previously untapped or emerging verticals while also managing a small team of Business Development Representatives.
Growing our business in this respect requires an emphasis on quality as well as quantity. The Manager of Business Development The Manager of Business Development will work as a part of the Customer Success department to ensure that additional prospective Mediavine publishers are as extensively vetted for brand safety, traffic, and advertising performance potential as the rest of our clients.
The Business Development team will play a critical role in helping Mediavine expand its base of authenticated users, leverage first-party data with advertisers, and position the company as an indispensable partner within a dynamic, changing ecosystem.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Business Development team’s productivity, building an inclusive work environment, ensuring team members thrive and organizational outcomes are met
- Leverage metrics and data to make informed decisions and build out strategic approaches in order to meet/exceed company targets and goals
- Grow traffic and revenue in new markets such as travel, home & garden, family & parenting, gaming, automotive, technology, sports and entertainment for Mediavine and all of its programs and offerings
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Mediavine’s products and services
- Establish, build, and maintain relationships with clients, and serve as a sounding board / point of contact for the clients you’ve helped to onboard
- Actively reach out to web properties that align with Mediavine’s mission statement of building sustainable businesses for content creators
- Manage pipeline to ensure that the team is achieving sales and revenue targets and growing the business
- Stays current on competitors and industry trends while proactively sharing knowledge with the team
- Establish the priorities of lead outreach and the order of approach
- Source high value deals
- Close mid to large tier deals in an effort to meet and exceed goals
- Collaborate and contribute to the success of the business development and greater customer success team
- Required travel on an as needed basis, for business opportunities, our annual All Hands Retreat, Team Retreats/Meetings and/or industry events/conferences (approx. 30%)
Requirements
Location:
- Applicants must be based in the United States
You Have:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Business Development in the digital publishing and/or technology space
- 2+ years of experience managing a business development team, preferred
- Experience building teams of motivated individuals, and positioning those team members for success, in a remote environment
- Strong proficiency with Google Suite
- Experience with communication platforms like Slack
- Experience working with a CRM such as Hubspot, Salesforce, etc
- A deep understanding of the online marketing and advertising industries, particularly regarding website monetization
- Proven success in coaching/mentoring and creating achievable goals and career paths, with the ability to remove roadblocks/barriers to ensure the success of employees
- Ability to set and meet sales targets in coordination with executive and other key stakeholders within the organization
- Experience with the full sales cycle with the ability to close deals
- Versatility in sales and account management, with the ability to adjust and utilize different, specific methods of communication to achieve goals
- Strong relationship management skills, with both internal and external contacts
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with an ability to make timely and effective decisions.
- Strong written & verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities
- Ability to travel up to 30%
