The Radiation Therapist is an ARRT Registered Therapist responsible for administering radiation therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. The role involves interacting with various individuals, including patients with cancer, physicians, nurses, patients' families, and co-workers. The Therapist must possess strong interpersonal communication skills to provide compassionate care across all age groups, from newborns to geriatrics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer radiation therapy treatments as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Explain radiation therapy procedures to patients, nurses, physicians, Medical Center staff, and the public.
- Operate and maintain state-of-the-art equipment, including the new Elekta Versa with VMAT, a new wide bore GE CT, and a new PET CT located at the hospital.
- Work collaboratively with a Radiation Oncologist with 30 years of experience, experienced therapists with a combined total of over 55 years of experience, an onsite dosimetrist, and a physicist.
- Participate in continuing education as prescribed by JCAHO and ARRT.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and hospital policies.
Qualifications:
Must-Haves:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Radiation Therapist.
- Knowledge of department functions and the principles of radiation therapy.
- Ability to effectively communicate and explain radiation therapy procedures to various stakeholders.
Nice-To-Haves:
- Experience in a Radiation Oncology Department is desirable but not required.
Work Schedule:
- 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
