Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Civil / Structural Engineer for Idaho Falls, ID.

Perform analysis, modeling, and simulation of civil/structural and mechanical systems and components. Perform linear and nonlinear, static, and dynamic analysis of such factors as stress, force, and material plasticity. Compare results to the provisions of governing codes, standards, and orders. Perform seismic analysis of structures. Provide support to design teams in the development of design requirements, alternative analyses, equipment selection and sizing, vendor equipment summaries and evaluations, specifications, drawings, supporting analyses and calculations and engineering design files. Provide support to Safety Analyses through simulation of postulated accidents and their structural/mechanical consequences.
This position supports the Department of Energy customer scope in nuclear facilities primarily. While not required, experience in the nuclear field and related construction and structural knowledge is preferred. Accountable for own safety, must promote safety, and integrate safety in the workplace and all aspects of engineering duties.
Apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts. Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts. Develop solutions to complex problems or create innovations through adaptation of emerging technological developments or processes. Work under consultative direction toward predetermined goals. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Serve as organization spokesperson on specialized topics within an area of expertise (e.g., component design and analyses are primarily with steel (and alloys), and concrete. Knowledge of roadways and welding are beneficial and desired). Plan and conduct efforts on complex assignments or projects. Review progress and evaluate results. May lead or direct major complex projects. Evaluate progress and results and recommend changes in processes and procedures.
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Perform and document detailed civil, structural, and mechanical engineering analysis of various structures and components to verify design integrity. Recommended design changes to existing or proposed structures to ensure design function will be met under applied loads. Review vendor or project related submittals regarding structural analyses or other related topics for completeness and accuracy. Ensure principles of ISMS are incorporated into analyses, designs, and execution of jobs.
- Review stress analysis and design packages to ensure conformance to design codes and specifications. Perform independent checks and peer review of others work.
- Provide on-site support in job planning, execution, and post-job implementation.
- Meet with customers to understand job requirements, plan the scope of work, estimate the resources needed to complete the task, establish the schedule, and report status.
- Establish and maintain proficiency with computer-based design and analysis tools.
- Be or become familiar with company standards and procedures and perform work to consensus codes.
- Maintain records and job files, and submit to document control
- Prepare reports and deliver presentations on completed work. Provide weekly status.
- Keep training and qualifications current, in accordance with individual training plan. Review and support company policies. Participate in safety activities.
- Interact with field engineers, crafts personnel, vendors, quality engineers to establish working terms and agreements.
Requirements
- Applicable bachelor’s degree plus 10 years of relevant experience. Prefer minimum 13 years of technical experience performing design and analysis. Prefer master’s degree in civil engineering with structural or geotechnical emphasis
- Developing rapport and working relations with project personnel (customer, Drafting, Quality and Procurement, Crafts) is expected; Customer service and abilities for personal interaction should be made evident
- Must have experience using structural/stress analysis and finite element analysis tools (STAAD.Pro and RISA preferred).
- Must be able to obtain an "L" Security clearance (depending on project requirements and approval).
- Professional Engineer License in the State of Idaho, or able to obtain license within an agreed period of time.
