POSITION SUMMARY

A Research Specialist is an expert history researcher and writer who completes research and writing/content projects for clients with a high degree of adaptability to daily demands.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate expertise in historical research and in adapting history topics for a variety of audiences. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide thorough and accurate historical research for clients as assigned, including collaborating with Historians, Archivists and other team members.

· Conduct research in: archival collections held at Heritage Werks; online repositories (including identifying appropriate resources as needed); public and academic libraries; published resources; and distant archives including public and client collections (occasional travel required).

· Complete research and other assignments to a high degree of professionalism including formatting, proofreading and providing research findings in appropriate templates; citing research sources as appropriate; helping to set standards and SOPs for appropriate sources to ensure accuracy; balancing thoroughness of research against time efficiency.

· Contribute to multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring successful execution of projects and delivering work on time and on budget.

· Execute additional projects as needed including creating content for exhibits, websites and other creative projects in close collaboration with Producers, Designers, Historians and others.

· Assist with administrative duties such as scanning, copying, etc., as needed, and additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

· Strong historical research skills with proven track record of working successfully with archival and primary sources as well as secondary sources, especially in 20th-century American history (MA or equivalent research-focused degree preferred but advanced undergraduate work with relevant work experience may be considered)

· Ability to speak and write knowledgeably about business history, history of science and technology, legal history and/or the history of popular culture all desirable

· Archival, library and/or museum experience/training preferred

· Flexibility and proven ability to shift priorities quickly

· Ability to work independently and to communicate needs, questions clearly and promptly

· Entrepreneurial spirit and intellectually curious, with inclination for creative problem solving

· Strong collaborator comfortable working in a hybrid (remote/in-person), structured, matrixed environment

· Copyediting training a plus

· Knowledge of project management software and principles a plus

· Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office products is critical

· Atlanta area candidates strongly preferred (role provides flexibility to work from home some days but access to the physical collections in our Atlanta area facilities is frequently required)
