We aim to provide our audience with the latest and most relevant world news, especially stories that impact Africa and its diaspora. We are seeking a talented and knowledgeable Freelance World News Writer to join our content team.

Job Summary: The Freelance World News Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing news articles on global events, with a focus on stories that affect Africa and its diaspora. This role requires a deep understanding of international affairs, excellent writing skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality content on tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research and Writing:
• Conduct thorough research on global events, trends, and stories, particularly those impacting Africa and its diaspora.
• Write clear, concise, and engaging news articles, features, and interviews.
• Ensure all content is accurate, well-sourced, and aligns with the station's voice and editorial standards.
• Content Creation:
• Develop a steady stream of world news articles to be published on the station's website and social media platforms.
• Create compelling headlines and engaging content that attracts and retains readers.
• Pitch story ideas and collaborate with the content team to develop in-depth features and special reports.
• Editing and Proofreading:
• Edit and proofread articles for grammar, style, and accuracy.
• Ensure all content meets the station's quality standards and is free from errors.
• Revise articles based on feedback from the Content Manager and other team members.
• Audience Engagement:
• Monitor audience feedback and engagement metrics to understand reader preferences and improve content.
• Stay updated on social media trends and integrate relevant content into articles.
• Respond to reader comments and questions in a professional and engaging manner.
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with the Content Manager and other writers to align content with the station’s goals and initiatives.
• Participate in virtual team meetings and contribute ideas for content strategy and development.
• Assist with other writing and content creation tasks as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a news writer, journalist, or similar role, with a focus on international news.
• Strong knowledge of global affairs, especially issues impacting Africa and its diaspora.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Ability to produce high-quality content on tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in using content management systems and social media platforms.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
• A degree in Journalism, International Relations, Communications, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Benefits

Rates: $10 to $50 per post, depending on length and depth of content
