Position Overview:
In this vital role, reporting to the VP, Finance, you will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting and other critical monthly reporting requirements, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable reconciliation, month-end close procedures, payroll administration, and tax filings. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in preparing for and participating in the company's rapid growth and expansion.
Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with UDC's mergers and acquisitions (M&A), human resources, and operations teams on strategic projects, leveraging your rigorous attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, proactive problem-solving abilities, and capacity to work independently while delivering timely and accurate results. This position is based in the greater New York area, with a combination of remote work and occasional in-person meetings with the accounting team, also located in the New York metropolitan region.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments, to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee and coordinate bi-weekly and ad hoc payrolls with the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) vendor, accurately preparing and documenting payroll records, and assisting in resolving payroll inquiries from vendors and employees.
- Lead and assist in daily reconciliations across dental practices, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
- Assist with monthly updates for fixed assets, ensuring accurate and timely recording of additions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses as required.
- Conduct ad-hoc reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies or irregularities in financial data.
- Cross-train with accounting department members to provide coverage for other tasks as needed.
- Maintain clear and organized documentation of financial transactions and records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication and alignment regarding financial processes and requirements.
- Stay updated on relevant accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations prepared by Junior Accountants.
- Monitor the daily performance of the accounting department, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Manage cash flow by monitoring bank balances, cash requirements, and resource planning.
- Track the progress of financial and accounting objectives, ensuring alignment with the company's targets.
- Establish and implement accounting policies and procedures that support the achievement of the company's goals.
Requirements
- Proven supervision and team leadership skills.
- Ability to manage processes, identify problems, and recommend effective solutions, with strong research capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with a client-focused approach to both written and verbal communication.
- Extensive experience in reconciliation and month-end closing processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Statement of Financial Accounting Standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Sage software is a plus.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or finance (required).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or actively pursuing certification.
- Minimum of five years of experience in accounting/finance, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven track record in financial reporting and monthly closing processes.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP accounting principles, regulations, and standards.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be located in Atlanta, Georgia or New York, New York.
