Requirements
We are seeking an experienced Director of Asset management. This key individual will be responsible for building out the company’s asset management function as the business transitions to an Independent Power Producer that owns and operates the distributed generation (DG) solar and battery storage projects (generally ranging from 1 to 10 MWs in size) that it develops and builds.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to mold this area of our business by building out processes, systems, and teams to manage a growing portfolio of solar and storage project assets and oversee the management of the projects that the company currently owns and future assets it will be adding to its portfolio.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance
- Track and report on the performance of the company’s DG solar projects, identifying and addressing any deviations from expected outcomes.
- Collaborate with both internal and external engineers, as well as operations and maintenance (O&M) specialists, to pinpoint, troubleshoot, and rectify performance issues while also enhancing project performance and profitability.
- Supervise and oversee contractors and service providers involved in operational projects.
- Work in coordination with engineers and O&M providers to facilitate essential maintenance and repairs on projects.
- Oversee the management of spare parts inventories.
- Administer insurance and warranty programs, including managing claims..
Compliance
- Develop understanding of and ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, technical and contractual requirements governing projects during their operational phase.
Finance
- Create project P&Ls and forecasts and track and report on project financial performance against budgets.
- Work closely with accounting and finance groups to ensure accurate project accounting and timely payment of expenses and invoicing and collection of project revenues.
- Develop, measure, and report on project metrics and key performance indicators.
Contracts
- Ensure compliance with and performance under all project contracts, including power purchase agreements, land leases, financing agreements, and all other contracts in effect during the operational phase of projects.
- Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with project service providers, including O&M providers and subscriber aggregators on community solar projects.
Systems and Process
- Identify and implement systems, technologies, and processes that the company will use to effectively manage projects and track and monitor project performance.
Engineering / Design
- Collaborate with the company’s engineering, procurement and construction functions to advise on project design impacts on asset management and performance.
Relationships
- Maintain solid working relationships internally and externally - manage communications with PPA counterparties, utilities, landowners, local community members, regulators and local authorities, contractors, suppliers, and service providers.
People Management
- Eventually hire and manage additional asset management staff as the company’s portfolio of projects grows.
EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE
- At least 7 years of experience in solar project asset management.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with Excel spreadsheets, financial modeling and data analysis
- Familiarity with financial/accounting principles
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and ability to interpret large amounts of information from various sources.
