Position Description:
Pole Star Defense is seeking a skilled and motivated Technical Writer to join our dynamic and growing team. In this role you will be responsible for translating dense technical content to suit the needs of diverse audiences: other technical performers, end users, organizational leadership, and key stakeholders. You will cross-collaborate with several different departments to create engaging, professional, and compliant content. The ideal candidate for this position is a proactive, skilled wordsmith who excels in creating clear and effective communication from complex information.
Responsibilities:
- Writing, editing, and maintaining system user guides, training materials, process documentation, and standard operating procedures in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Collaborating with subject matter experts, developers, and stakeholders to understand system functionality, policies, processes, and requirements
- Developing, writing, and editing functional descriptions, specifications, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
- Conducting research and analysis to gather technical information and documentation requirements
- Ensuring documentation adheres to established standards, templates, and style guides
- Translating complex technical information into clear, concise, engaging, and marketable content to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience gathering, analyzing, and composing technical information.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience writing, reviewing, and editing requirements and specifications for federal contracts
- Demonstrated experience in a highly technical field, such as software development, computer science, or engineering.
- Experience working in an Agile environment, writing user stories, documenting sprints, and creating burn-up and burn-down charts.
- Proficient in preparing, generating, reviewing, revising, and maintaining technical documentation, including analysis of alternatives, SWOT analysis, root cause and final solution documentation, and data reporting documents.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Meticulous attention to detail and effective professional correspondence.
Education/Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or a related field
Desired Skills: (Note Mandatory)
- Experience working with DHS or DoD
- Government Contract Experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
Travel:
- Ability for up to 10% travel both domestic and international.

WORK SCHEDULE NOTE:
While this position is scheduled for a traditional Monday – Friday work week, our systems run 24/7/365 and as such, you may be expected to perform out of hours, on-call support on an as needed basis. Additional compensation may be available for working on-call, standby or holiday hours.
This is a Public Trust position and requires completion of a State and Federal Criminal History Report (i.e., background check) and may require a Department of Defense security clearance. Current and future employment will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of both the FBI Summary History Report and if designated, a DoD security clearance.
