Position Summary 

 As ESA builds its project portfolio across multiple states, this new position is being created to manage several areas of importance across C&I and community solar business units. This position requires expertise in electrical engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering principles, and basic project management and coordination skills. This position reports directly to the Chief Technical Officer, though tasks may also come from other departments across the organization. 

 

Responsibilities  

Electrical Engineering: 

  • Review site drawings and utility rules and regulations to determine preliminary interconnection approach. Verify after site surveys as required. 
  • Prepare 30% Single Line Diagrams to meet utility guidelines. Guide projects through the interconnection application and study process, interfacing with utility personnel to understand requirements and working with ESA interconnections team to supply design documentation. Regularly follow up on projects to ensure utilities are adhering to published timelines. Provide study cost estimates and timelines to development and accounting teams for budgetary purposes. 
  • Work with CAD and engineering teams to develop in-house 30% / 60% / IFP / IFC / As-Built drawing sets and engineering studies as required, or work with external engineering firms to secure same. 
  • Work with the engineering team to respond to RFIs from the construction team, with new instructions, drawing details, or other clarifications as needed 
  • Assist company teams (e.g., operations, QA/QC, construction, and asset management) as needed in ensuring successful, operational projects. 
  • Develop and refine energy production estimates from initial analysis through as-built acceptance testing. 

Structural Engineering Coordination: 

  • Develop and implement company approach for early-stage structural due diligence of host buildings. 
  • Develop and implement company approach (with consulting assistance from third-party engineers as needed) for early verification of module selection for rooftop and carport projects, including ASCE load estimate calculations. 
  • Work with external partners as needed to secure building analyses and 30% / 60% / IFP / IFC / As-Built structural sets as required by each Project. 

Site Plan Verification: 

  • Work with entitlement and development departments in approving site plans produced by the CAD team, verifying equipment layouts with respect to interconnection equipment requirements and zoning restrictions (e.g., setbacks, height limitations, landscape requirements). 

 

 

 

Requirements

 Required Education and Experience  

  • BS in Engineering and 4+ years’ engineering and/or construction experience, OR 
  • MS in Engineering and 3+ years’ engineering and/or construction experience 
  • 2+ years’ experience in solar power or electrical power systems 
  • Preferred: licensed Engineer Intern, licensed Professional Engineer
