Job Title: Project Manager, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Location: Hybrid (In-Person in Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Overview: Blue Sky Utility (BSU) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented energy developer or engineer to oversee development of 20+ 2-5MW battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The role involves managing three external development teams, ensuring project timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met, and overseeing the transition of projects to Blue Sky’s EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Coordination: Coordinate multiple external development teams responsible for structural, civil, software, electrical, technology, and architectural design.
- Status Meetings: Conduct weekly progress meetings to review project priorities and identify potential risks and solutions.
- Scope and Timeline Management: Develop and manage the scope and timelines for 10-15 projects across 2-3 contract development teams.
- Risk Assessment: Review civil engineering and legal documents and engage outside engineering and/or legal resources to identify and mitigate permitting risks.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage project budgets.
- Reporting: Produce weekly and monthly progress reports.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Utility and ISO Tariff or RFP Activities: Review and understand relevant regulations and utility incentives. Prepare RFP responses.
- Billing and Payments: Prepare and process billing and payment requests through internal accounting systems.
- Documentation: Compile, prepare, and document all pre-NTP (Notice to Proceed) requirements.
- Change Orders: Draft, negotiate, and manage subcontract change orders.
- Additional Tasks: Complete additional tasks as assigned by project management leadership.
Requirements
Requirements
- Experience: At least 3 years of project management experience in renewable energy development, including collaboration with civil, electrical engineering, and EPC teams.
- Sector Knowledge: Experience in C&I (Commercial and Industrial) or utility-scale solar or BESS development, including tracking and/or leading the Interconnection Application (IA) process with utility companies.
- Skills:
· Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
· Proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
· Ability to foster team collaboration and maintain strong partner/client relationships.
· Self-motivated with the ability to excel in a hybrid work environment.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or civil engineering.
- Contract negotiation experience for professional services.
- Familiarity with the distribution utility interconnection process and commissioning.
- Understanding of federal renewable energy incentive programs.
Additional Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience managing MW-scale BESS development projects.
- Familiarity with the interconnection process in New England or ISO regions.
- Experience with AHJ (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) permitting processes.
- Knowledge of DC and AC one-line diagrams and coordination with electrical engineers.
- Background in renewable energy projects in New England or New York.
- Contract negotiation skills for supplier agreements.
- Experience delivering professional services for renewable energy stakeholders.
- Familiarity with energy project modeling (preferred but not required).

A reasonable estimate of the current annual salary range is $100,000-110,000 including annual bonus
