Full Job Description
YOUR ROLE
Are you known for Logistics skills? Are you passionate about Import? If so, we have an opportunity that would allow you to work as an Import Agent, ensuring movement of our customers import shipments. You will be the main point of contact for coordination between customers shipment imports, customs brokers, and shipping carriers.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
- Receives freight, documentation and waybilling; assesses charges; and collects fees for shipments.
- Opens a file on the dedicated software system for each shipment received
- Responds to inquires by fax, e-mail or telephone
- Negotiates with domestic customers, as intermediary for foreign customers, to resolve problems and arrive at mutual agreements.
- Examine invoices and shipping manifests for conformity to tariff and customs regulations
- Contracts customs officials to affect release of incoming freight and resolve customs delays
- Itemizes changes, prepare freight bills, accept payments and issues refunds
- Notifies consignees of delays in departure of shipment. Provides POD's to shippers if requested.
- Examines documents such as invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements, to verify conversion of merchandise weights or volumes into system used by other country.
- Contacts customs officials to affect release of incoming freight and resolve customs delays.
- Itemizes charges, prepares freight bills, accepts payments and issues refunds.
- Notifies consignees of delays in departure of shipment. Provides POD's to shippers if requested.
- Examines documents such as invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements, to verify conversion of merchandise weights or volumes into system used by other country.
- Converts foreign currency figures into United States monetary equivalents, or domestic currency into foreign equivalents.
- Calculates duties or tariffs to be paid on merchandise.
- Corresponds with foreign companies
Requirements
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED, Minimum two to three years related experience.
- Customer focused.
- Ability to learn all aspects of the team’s work, and to provide cover and assistance on a regular basis.
- Good Analytical skills, strong PC skills
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of sea freight product /environment.
- Self-starter, disciplined with leadership and motivational abilities.
- Excellent organization skills and be a proactive problem solver.
- Ability to manage own time and priorities workload to meet internal and external expectations.
- Must be proficient in all arears of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Good interpersonal and teamworking skills required.
- Cargowise a plus
