Full Job Description

The HVAC Technician workday consists of installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing various heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems that control the temperature and air quality in buildings and homes. You will travel and work in multiple settings, both residential and commercial.  

 

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities 

Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.  
  • Identifying maintenance risks on equipment.  
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.  
  • Cleaning, adjusting, and repairing systems and performing warranty services.  
  • Performing emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.  
  • Providing technical direction and on-the-job training.  
  • Keeping daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.  
  • Ensuring compliance with appliance standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.  
  • Complying with service standards, work instructions, and customers' requirements.  
  • Assisting with customers' queries.  

 

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Skills 

Required: 

  • Valid Driver’s License. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Must be a licensed HVAC Technician with at least 3 years of experience. 
  • Associate degree in HVAC (Preferred). 

 

License/Certification 

Preferred:  

  • HVAC License 

 

Associated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Standard practices of the HVAC and refrigeration trade.  
  • Theory of HVAC and refrigeration systems.  
  • Materials, methods, and tools used to operate and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems.  
  • The applicable building codes, ordinances, and regulations of State and local authorities regarding HVAC and refrigeration.  
  • Air compressors and pneumatic controls.  
  • Cooling tower and water treatment.  
  • Manual and electrical tools and equipment applicable to the HVAC and refrigeration trade.  
  • Welding and soldering techniques.  
  • Health and safety regulations.  
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.  
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.

Working Environment & Conditions/Physical Requirements 

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking.  
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.  
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.  
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.  
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights up to 75 lbs. 
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases. 

 

 Equipment or Machines Routinely Used in This Position 

  • Operate various hand and power tools, a welder torch, a vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade, and a motor vehicle; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition; maintain parts and tool inventory.  

 

Review Procedures 

  • Evaluation after 90 days of employment.  
  • Annual Performance Review.
