Job Summary
The Electronic Tracking Technician will ensure successful Optical Tracking from multiple locations for data acquisition with high resolution and high-speed sensors behind long focal length telescopes during launch and landing operations. This person will ensure all preventive, corrective and sustaining maintenance on tracking equipment is performed and assets are ready for use.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Fabricates, installs, modifies, refurbishes, functionally checks, operates, monitors, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and electronic devices and systems.
- Operate test equipment required to evaluate system performance. Fabricates a wide variety of assemblies/devices for use in such systems.
- Modifies/refurbishes/repairs electrical, electronic and mechanical devices, equipment and systems to incorporate specified changes and to perform both preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Performs functional checks of entire systems. Operates and monitors such systems in support of tests of launches and/or stands by for emergency trouble clearance.
- May operate primary trackers in support of tests and launches.
- Validates and buys-off systems, devices, and equipment and provides direct technical support to engineering, government/contractor agents or representatives.
- Records data and obtains measurements for system readiness and acceptance testing.
- Maintains activity logs and documentation of all work performed. May prepare equipment operational procedures.
- Design custom mechanical assemblies, communicate requirements to fabrication shop and verify assemblies meet specifications after manufacturing.
- Create custom analog and digital circuits, create custom PCBs, guide PCBs through the manufacturing process and verify board functionality after build.
- Integrate COTS/GOTS hardware/software to repair and/or refurbish existing electromechanical systems.
- Work with existing analog or digital servo systems to improve performance or tune PID control architectures.
- Perform hardware and software timing tests to validate system/subsystem performance.
Requirements
- Complete knowledge of electronic, electrical, and electro-mechanical theory, practice and procedures as applicable to the work described herein.
- Ability to diagnose, trouble shoot and repair electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical systems. To read and interpret diagrams, schematics and drawings.
- Basic knowledge of servo control.
- Familiarity with various analog and digital video recording formats, including VHS, S-VHS, DigiBeta, BetaCam, DVC, mini-DV and DVCPro. Knowledge of photographic composition, framing, and recording.
- Familiarity with various film cameras, including 35mm, 70mm stills and 16mm, 35mm and 70mm high speed motion picture.
- The ability to operate and control video cameras, , lens zoom and focus, video switching control panels, radio equipment, various recording devices.
- Must be able to follow standard Job Plans and related work instructions.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to pass a NASA background investigation.
- Must be able to pass an initial and random drug testing.
- Possess a valid Florida Operator Driver's license, Class E minimum, and be able to operate Government furnished service vehicles, including standard vans and pickup trucks.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Military technical training or two-year technical degree and 5 years of experience working in a related technical position.
- Experience may be substituted for Education: 1.5 years related experience is equivalent to 1 year of formal education.
Physical Requirements
- Requires working indoors and outdoors. Outdoor conditions may be in cold and hot temperatures, high humidity, and windy conditions.
- Certain job assignments require special precautions and/or protective gear or clothing due to potential risk for such sources as moving machinery, chemicals, and electrical hazards, working from special rigging, working from heights, climbing ladders and other work platforms and working in confined and small spaces restricting physical movement.
- May require lifting, working on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods.
- Be physically able to safely lift and carry unassisted 60-pound loads a minimum distance of 33 feet and place it on a 5-foot high shelf.
- Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Lighting conditions may be inadequate in some work locations.
- Be able to work at heights, including temporary platforms, towers and ladders, utilizing proper fall protection and other PPE.
- Ability to receive and transmit auditory information using telecommunication or electronic devices.
- Be able to work any shift and reasonable overtime, as required.
