Full Job Description

The Workforce Development Specialist at our drop-in center program is instrumental in helping marginalized individuals overcome barriers to employment. By providing job training and career services, the Workforce Development specialist supports participants in gaining the skills and confidence necessary to enter and succeed in the workforce. The Workforce Development Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing job readiness programs that equip participants with necessary skills to obtain and sustain employment. This includes conducting workshops on resume writing, interview preparation, job searching techniques, and other career-related skills.

Please note: To accommodate the needs of the Drop-in Center members, this position will be required to work dayshift Sunday through Thursday OR Tuesday through Saturday and may include working some holidays.

Requirements

General Accountabilities

  • Evaluate the skills, interests, and needs of participants to tailor training programs effectively.
  • Create and deliver comprehensive job readiness training sessions, including resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies, and workplace etiquette.
  • Provide individual counseling and guidance on career planning, job searching, and navigating the job market.
  • Assist participants in finding suitable employment opportunities, helping with job applications and interview preparation.
  • Collaborate with local businesses, educational institutions, and employment agencies to create job opportunities and enhance program offerings.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of training programs and adjust strategies as needed to improve participant outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers to secure job opportunities and partnerships beneficial for program participants.
  • Organize and coordinate workshops, guest speakers, and events aimed at enhancing participants' employability and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of participants' progress, challenges, and successes to facilitate continuous improvement and funding compliance.

 

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent required.
  • Proven experience in workforce development, career counseling, or a similar role preferred.
  • Prior experience in peer support or community health services is beneficial.
  • Certification in peer support, addiction recovery, or mental health first aid is advantageous.

  • Knowledge of local labor market conditions and employment trends.
  • Strong facilitation and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to design and implement effective training and development programs.
  • Motivated and results-driven, with a commitment to participant success.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to changing needs and circumstances.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and inspire participants.
  • Empathy and understanding of the barriers faced by disadvantaged or marginalized populations.
