Job Summary:
The Peer Support Services Coordinator role is crucial in nurturing a supportive community that empowers individuals in their recovery journeys, leveraging the unique peer-based model of the Recovery Café to promote healing and long-term wellness. The Peer Support Services Coordinator will provide support by facilitating the healing and growth of individuals through the power of shared experiences and mutual support. In addition, the Peer Support Services Coordinator is responsible for organizing, managing, and enhancing peer support services at the Recovery Café, which is a specialized community environment aimed at supporting individuals in recovery from addiction, mental illness, and other life challenges.
*Please note: This is a Per Diem/PRN position*
Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Actively work to engage members in the café’s activities and support services.
- Build strong relationships with members to facilitate their recovery journey.
- Connect with local agencies, healthcare providers, and community resources to support members’ needs beyond the café, such as housing, employment, counseling, and medical services.
- Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the peer support program and assist in changes to improve them.
- Collect feedback from participants and volunteers to gauge satisfaction and outcomes.
- Assist in training and supporting peer volunteers in recognizing and responding to crises among members, including relapse prevention strategies and immediate crisis intervention techniques.
- Promote the Recovery Café’s services within the community to increase awareness and participation.
- Advocate for the needs of members and the benefits of peer support in recovery.
- Maintain detailed records of programs, attendance, member progress, and volunteer activities.
- Prepare reports for café management and potential funders to illustrate impact and operational needs.
- Ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for all participants.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in addiction recovery or mental health settings.
- Certification in peer support, addiction recovery, or mental health first aid is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an emphasis on empathy and active listening.
