Full Job Description

The Peer Support Services Coordinator for our drop-in program plays a critical role in assisting individuals who face challenges related to mental health, addiction, or homelessness. The Peer Support Services Coordinator provides support, guidance, and encouragement to participants of the drop-in program, using their own lived experiences of recovery and resilience to help others navigate similar challenges. The Peer Support Services Coordinator is responsible for facilitating peer-led support groups, providing one-on-one mentoring, and connecting participants with additional resources and services. This role is pivotal in creating a supportive community environment where participants can share experiences and receive empathy and guidance from someone who truly understands their struggles.

Please note: To accommodate the needs of the Drop-in Center members, this position will be required to work dayshift Sunday through Thursday OR Tuesday through Saturday and may include working some holidays.

Requirements

General Accountabilities

  • Engage with participants to build trust and rapport.
  • Provide empathetic support and guidance to participants, sharing personal experiences of recovery to foster a supportive environment.
  • Plan and facilitate peer support groups that focus on topics relevant to recovery, mental health, and personal development.
  • Assist participants in identifying and accessing external resources, including mental health services, housing, and employment opportunities.
  • Help participants develop personalized recovery plans, including goal setting and identifying practical steps towards recovery.
  • Provide immediate support during crises, applying de-escalation techniques and emotional support to manage stressful situations.
  • Advocate for participants' needs within the program and in the broader community.
  • Keep accurate records of participant interactions and progress, ensuring confidentiality and integrity in reporting.

 

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent required.
  • Experience working in addiction recovery or mental health settings is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in peer support or community health services is beneficial.
  • Certification in peer support, addiction recovery, or mental health first aid is advantageous.

  • Strong boundaries and ethics, understanding the importance of confidentiality.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compassionate and patient, with a genuine desire to support others.
