Position Overview:

Impact Life, a leading nonprofit organization in Wilmington, Delaware, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team. This hybrid position offers an opportunity for a seasoned financial professional with a strong background in nonprofit financial management and contracts oversight. The CFO will play a critical role in overseeing the financial health of the organization, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with federal grants and other funding sources. Experience with negotiating payor contracts is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization’s mission and long-term growth.
  • Manage contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance with all terms and conditions.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on federal grants management, ensuring compliance with regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with the executive team and board of directors to provide financial insights that drive strategic decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor the finance team, promoting professional development and efficiency.
  • Lead the annual audit process, ensuring all financial statements and records are accurate and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial operations to ensure efficient and accurate processing.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including funders, auditors, governmental agencies, and payors, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring financial transparency.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to financial management.
  • Lead and manage the development of annual budgets and financial plans.
  • Support grant reporting, budget modifications, and federal funding opportunities in collaboration with program managers.
  • Negotiating payor contracts and ensuring favorable financial terms is a plus.
  • Advise and build a team to meet the needs of the department for the current projects and as it grows.
  • Attend and report at board meetings and other external stakeholder meetings as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of financial management experience in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on fiscal contract and grant management.
  • Proven track record in overseeing financial operations for nonprofits, including budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes.
  • Strong experience in managing federal grants and ensuring compliance with financial grant terms and conditions.
  • Experience in negotiating payor contracts is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting standards.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or advanced degree in finance is preferred.
  • Experience with accounting software and systems management (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a hybrid work environment.
