Full Job Description
St. Luke’s School, a secular (non-religious), college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks On-Call Instructional Substitute Teachers in all academic subjects:
- English
- History/Social Studies
- Science
- Math
- French
- Spanish
- Mandarin
- Computer Science
- Engineering
- Visual Arts
- Band
- Choir
- Theater
Instructional Subs must have prior teaching experience in the subject area to qualify.
Compensation
$195/full day, 8:30am to 3:00pm
(Half days may be arranged and paid accordingly.)
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Teach up to 6 periods per day.
- Adapt and/or design instructional lesson plans that meet the needs of the assigned class, potentially including creating and delivering feedback on homework assignments.
- Deliver the discipline-specific instruction as designed, e.g. run a Chemistry lab, teach in the target language, direct band rehearsal.
- Take attendance and submit according to school procedures.
- Communicate with the classroom teacher via email as needed in advance of the lesson or following it.
Key Skills and Qualities:
- Past teaching experience in the subject area.
- Experience teaching upper elementary, middle school, or high school age students.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Collaborative approach to innovation and creative problem-solving.
- Strong cultural competency skills, with a demonstrated commitment to furthering an equitable and inclusive school community.
