Full Job Description

  • As a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) on the local program staff, the WIC nutritionist conducts a complete WIC nutrition assessment, determines and documents the nutritional risk of WIC participants
    • Responsible for appropriate food package assignment and tailoring for WIC participants
    • Assures proper certification of eligible applicants
    • Assist with implementing the local agency plan's nutrition and breastfeeding promotion and support component
  • Complete nutritional assessments
    • Provide nutrition counseling and education
    • Make appropriate referrals
    • Attend all required training
    • Be an advocate for Access in the community
  • Assist program staff with client support
    • Answer multi-line telephone, forward calls, and take messages
    • Greet and assist visitors in determining needs within the agency
    • Complete required reports for the program supervisor
    • Maintain filing system for confidential records

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution accredited by a recognized regional accrediting body with a major in foods and nutrition, community nutrition, nutrition education, or nutritional sciences 
  • Completing a Commission on Accreditation/Approval of Dietetics Education (CAADE) accredited/approved supervised practice program (e.g., a Coordinated Program, Dietetic Internship, or Approved Pre-Professional Practice/AP4 Program) or a master’s degree in nutrition education can qualify for one year of work experience.  Persons with a master’s degree in nutrition who do not have a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition must have completed the equivalent subject matter at the graduate level to compensate for any courses not met at the undergraduate level
  • Ability to perform primary computer and telephone skills
  • Ability to work well with a diverse population

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Ability to perform basic computer skills
  • Must be able to develop nutrition education plans

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to transport me as needed to complete essential functions and responsibilities outside the office
  • Sit for long periods while counseling WIC clients
  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • Ability to complete necessary paperwork
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
  • Regularly required to operate office equipment including calculator, telephone, copy machine, and computer
  • Occasionally lift and or move up to 20 pounds

35 Hour work week

Holidays:

  • 13 paid holidays per year, including 10 aligned with office closures and 3 floating holidays for personal use.

Vacation Time:

  • Accrual of 10 vacation days per anniversary year, with the option to carry over up to 2 weeks' time based on hire date.

Sick Leave:

  • Paid Sick Leave benefits with accrual up to 15 days per calendar year, allowing carryover to a maximum of 90 days.

Personal Leave:

  • 3 personal days per calendar year, accrued on specific dates and not carried over to the next year.

Bereavement Leave:

  • 3 paid days of absence for the death of an immediate family member.

  • Matching contributions ranging from 1% to 5% of an employee's gross salary with immediate 100% vesting.
