Company Overview

Legal & General is a leader in Pension Risk Transfer with over 30 years of experience globally, servicing over a million annuitants. Building on our global success, we established our Pension Risk Transfer platform in the US in 2015.  The business has grown steadily and by the end of 2023 we had more than $10 billion in premium written.

At Legal & General Retirement America, we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of our customers, partners, colleagues, and the communities in which they live.  We are passionate about what we do and how we do it. This means working with pace and energy to reach our goals and challenging ourselves to achieve more.  We strive to create a unique environment where balance between work and life is possible.

Team and Role Overview

LGRA’s PRT pricing team is composed of actuaries at all levels, from recent hires to industry veterans. We enjoy collaborating at LGRA’s beautiful Stamford CT office, working in a hybrid model 2-3 days per week.

Our team seeks a new or recent graduate to price pension risk transfer transactions. This role has two main functions: transaction pricing and post-sale support.

Successful candidates will quickly learn complex actuarial models, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and deliver timely analysis despite ambiguity and obstacles.

We work in a matrixed environment: you’ll work on several transaction teams concurrently, along with other projects such as Pricing’s continuous improvement efforts.

For transaction pricing, you’ll partner with three to five actuaries and use proprietary actuarial software and mortality models to analyze request for proposals (RFP) from de-risking pension plans. You’ll evaluate risks, model annuity liabilities, and efficiently determine pricing and risk measures.

Post-sale support includes transaction trueups for premium and interest adjustments, and benefit calculations as deferred participants annuitize. In this cross-functional role with individuals across multiple teams, learn defined benefit plan provisions, and understand pricing risks from a new perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate transaction features to understand and properly model contractual guarantees
  • Prepare annuitant data for modelling and project expected asset and liability cash flows
  • Learn, use, and improve pricing software and assist in the team’s continuous improvement efforts
  • Calculate and analyze capital and profit metrics for PRT transactions
  • Assist with post-sale transaction maintenance, including individual benefit calculations for payout annuities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative analysis field
  • Completion of 1-2 Society of Actuaries examinations
  • At least one actuarial internship preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or R
  • Consistently deliver high work quality despite ambiguity and obstacles, often under time pressure
  • Collaboration, organization, and accountability to manage and deliver several responsibilities
  • Intrinsic motivation, work ethic, can-do attitude, and perseverance
  • Deliver clear and concise messages that connect with your audience, in person and in writing

Benefits

  • 10 - 25 vacation days depending on experience level and years of service
  • 4 floating holidays & 2 personal days
  • 10 - 15 sick days, depending on years of service
  • 2 paid volunteering days
  • Health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Supplemental health benefits and life insurance
  • 6 weeks of paid parental and maternal leave
  • Immediate vesting into a 401k savings plan with up to 6% company match
  • 100% employer-contributed Pension Plan - Cash Balance Plan after 1 year of service
  • Flexible Workspace and Arrangements
  • Tuition and Certification reimbursements
  • Infertility and domestic partner benefits

The expected hiring compensation range for this position is $73,000 - $86,000 USD annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The current bonus target for the position is 5% of the base salary with a stretch to twice the target, modified for corporate and individual performance.
