Technician I

Technicians in Laser Division are responsible for fiber and/or free-space assembly and alignment of laser and optical systems, inspection of optical components, and build of electrical devices in both manufacturing and R&D settings. Main responsibilities of this position include optics inspection and packaging, in addition to electrical, mechanical, optical, and fiber-optic assembly.  This role will generate production or batch test data, prepare products for shipment, and will utilize our ERP system. Position involves minimum travel. This position pays $20.00 - $25.00 Hourly

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

• Inspection of optical components to documented industry standards.
• Handle and assemble intricate opto-mechanical components and assemblies, including handling and mounting of fragile optics and/or optical fibers
• Understand and follow work instructions, engineering drawings, and other material used for the production of complex systems involving electronics, mechanical assemblies and fiber components.
• Conform to data system reporting methods to record and report test results.
• Ability to utilize sensitive production equipment such as fiber splicers and measurement instruments after training and according to documented instructions.
• Support R&D activities by building assemblies based on engineering instructions and performing engineering-designed tests.
• Follow cleanroom protocol.
• Provide continuous improvement feedback on procedures and processes.
• Meet output and quality goals

Physical Activities:

·        The employee must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. As a result, they should have a steady hand and good hand-eye coordination. Additionally, optical  inspection requires high visual acuity. Work might involve sitting or standing for long durations and/or performing repetitious work at times. Need to be able lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Employee may encounter substances such as acetone and epoxy. Work cells have the potential to be noisy at times.

Requirements

Experience:

• Minimum 1 years of experience in optics industry or specialized training in an optical field
• Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office is required.

Education:

• High school diploma required. Further education or course-work in a related field is preferred.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• Familiarity with optic inspection to industry standards.
• Familiarity with soldering and crimping for electrical assembly.
• Hands-on experience building laser or optical systems.
• Hands-on experience using optical measurements instruments such as power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, or beam profilers.
