Product Specialist

You in The Role and on The Team:  In this role, you are a Business Analyst with a clear desire to ultimately move into a Product Owner position.  You are an aspiring Product Manager who enjoys problem-solving, understanding customer needs, and transforming those insights into actionable requirements for software systems. The role involves working closely with end users, customers, and the engineering team to ensure that software releases are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with customer needs.  This role is ideal for someone with a background in tech project Management or business analysis in a technical field that is interested in having a large impact in a growing company. 

A Day in the Life

·       Requirement Gathering and Analysis: Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to gather, document, and present software requirements. This includes generating user stories, use cases, and feature descriptions using tools like Word and Excel, with a focus on creating clear visual aids like flowcharts and diagrams.

·       Collaboration and Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between customers and the engineering team, ensuring customer needs are understood, prioritized, and reflected in the product development roadmap. This will involve significant in person and remote communication including evening meetings with the engineering team in China.

·       Project Management: Define the scope of software releases and work with the engineering team to determine the best approach, balancing feature scope and timelines. Manage the ongoing prioritization process and track the progress of product development activities to ensure alignment with the product plan.

·       Product Development: Assist in refining the product release process, improving structure and maturity, and developing documentation such as release notes that clearly communicate changes and updates to stakeholders.

·       Learning and Adaptation: Rapidly learn the company’s software platforms, including backend systems and customer-facing UIs, to gain a thorough understanding of how they operate and how they can be improved.

Requirements

Key success factors

·       Must-Have Skills: Experience in gathering requirements, documenting software solutions, and working closely with both customers and engineering teams. Proficiency in Agile methodologies and a strong understanding of software development processes.

·       Nice-to-Have Skills: Background in consulting, project management in tech, or working in a BA role within a tech environment. Knowledge of user experience (UX) design principals.  Experience in a fast paced, evolving work environment. 

·       Personal Traits: Problem-solver with a strong understanding of customer needs, enjoys navigating ambiguity, and possesses a tenacious attitude towards achieving structured outcomes in a dynamic and evolving environment.

The Salary: $80,000-110,000

The Travel: 10-25%
